Day of the longest night
when earth, reborn,
begins to feed again.
Melting snow and
warming soil
births the seed again.
Oh, day of the longest night,
four and eleven days hence
we celebrate birth and death.
And birth again.

Beautiful holiday to choose for this poem. I love the winter solstice for exactly the reasons noted here – the turning point of the solar season, and for ourselves to turn from the bleakest and hope for the brightest. Nice use of repetition in the final line.
