Poem 11, Prompt 23

Arandale Shimmersley Gilbert the Fifth
Was heir to the throne of La Monde
But ruling the world was not what he wished
So Arandale chose to abscond

He fled from the palace at quarter to two
His ambition in life was clear
The only thing he’d ever wanted to do
Be a bloodthirsty buccaneer

He hitched all the way to the port of Du Zift
Where he hijacked a high-powered yacht
But there was something that young Gilbert the Fifth
Had unfortunately forgot

He had failed to remember that he could not swim
And so when the yacht capsized
Arandale Shimmersley Gilbert the Fifth
Went under and never arised

Introduction

To find the right words, to define my state of mind and being was ideal in this marathon,
To let my existence, energy, and thoughts be felt in an artistic manner rather than the usual loud and chaotic approach I use in person.
To show people, that may be directed to this page or come to see my work the many layers that make me human,
To gain a better understanding of myself and appreciate me more,
For both the reader and myself the writer.
So if you are closed-minded and not open to an unorthodox way of thinking take time to open your mind,
As you will venture into the inner workings of my being,
Share my insanity and become connected with me as I extend my being through the words you will read.
This is different from my other work but has a feeling of relatable
So once again as you enter my mind,
I hope you enjoy

Is there someone inside me?

there’s someone inside

my body, who has

(on more than one occasion)

wept & from me,

independently; & from my eyes,

his own alien tears.

& all this, upon

a few events where I had

just exited from some vivid dream.

Day breaks (Poem 22)

As day breaks I am dreaming of you
The sun peeps out in all its beauty
Bursting forth in all is glory are
The rays that shine so orange
Brightens the morning sky
Leaving me speechless and I look inside

Water sprang up giving a gentle feel
Meadows of love borrows a field
Life is so diverse when you look
From the inside how splendid it is
Just to meander through this picturesque day

Oceans afar of or is it a dejavue
The distant view is so vague to see
Wonder what is beyond the horizon
It could be a delusion

The Anchor of Jawll

(prompt #22 picture of the cave where the anchor resides “today” in Onweald; this poem I’ll need to edit some more (obvs) and use in a fantasy short story that supports a longer novel coming out in 2021)

The Anchor of Jawll

By Sandy Lender

In the land of Kida, the king left his bride

As was custom for family, custom for kin

He sought the gods’ favor, ‘fore ocean tide

Could overtake Kida’s outer seawall again

His task was worthy

His task was grand

For going to sea,

They stood to a man

In the land of Kida, the king left his bride

And the women she governed both fairly and kind

No maid, young or old, would dare leave her side

To protect Kida’s seawall, the women stayed by

Within their great hall

King Dlan left a gift

The anchor of Jawll

Which no man could lift

In the land of Kida, the king left his bride

And treasures among them bought them much favor

With the gods and the priests and the Ungol pride

But Queen Lelta’s loyalty never did waver

Across the deep ocean

Of seven isles

Dlan took ev’ry man

Through angriest trials

In the land of Kida, the king left his bride

The anchor of Jawll that glowed and then spoke

To judge who would threaten their ranks from inside

With this gift the queen knew who healed and who broke

Across the bleak ocean

For seven long years

With ev’ry seaman

King Dlan disappeared

In the land of Kida, the queen took her place

Using the greatest treasure of them all

Blending the peoples who would join their race

Testing their worth with the anchor of Jawll

Did you get your wish?

Why do you weep so long my love?
Is it not day?
Have the dark shadows of night
Not been banished by the sun
And thus bright enough to dry your tears?

Why do you weep so long my love?
Is this not what you wanted?
Have not flowers returned
Their garish colors
Enough to brighten your eyes?

Why do you weep so long my love?
Do you not see?
Was it not you who wished for peace
And for everyone to agree
Thus necessitating this solution?

Why do you weep so long my love?
Why do you stay?
Why here in the deep ruin
Of what was once our world
Do you linger and delay?

Why do you weep so long my love?
Have you finally gotten what you wished for?
Only to see that wishes
Have consequences
That you did not anticipate?

Why do you weep so long my love?
I grow weary of this grief
Which has no place
As far as I can tell
On the face of one who got their desires

Weep all you want my love
I will leave you here
This was not the world that I wanted
But it is the one that is still here
It will have to do

Weep all you want my love
One last thing before I go
Next time
Be careful
What you wish for

Hour 23; Prompt 23: Carina

You would have been 15, this coming December
Lost to natural things beyond my control
I hated myself so much that day I was called
I was to blame, she said
She, who was to be your mother

I dreamed of you often
Before and since
Your hair, straight and raven like your mothers
Cheeks full and soft
A smile that could melt the coldest of hearts
Your eyes; dark with lashes as long as mine

It’s been years since I dreamed of you last
Though you are never far from my thoughts
Every once in awhile
You’ll visit
As if to remind me
As if I’d ever forget
You

Hour 23 — Perry’s Imaginary Dog

Beth A. Fleisher

Hour 23

Prompt 23:  Write a poem about an imaginary pet or person. The poem can be from your perspective, the perspective of a neutral third party, or from the perspective of the imaginary pet or person themselves.

Perry’s Imaginary Dog

Perry always was a strange lad,

seeing pictures in clouds,

hearing voices from trees.

So when Perry said he had an

imaginary dog

we snickered behind our hands,

whilst pretending to listen

very intently to his stories.

After all, he was a good lad,

was our Perry.

Not a mean bone in his body,

always helpful to his Mum,

and didn’t he mow Mrs. Gracey’s

yard when Mr. Gracey was ill?

Yes, indeed, he did.

So if he takes comfort from an

imaginary dog,

we, all of us, we’ll let him have

his comfort and not bother him about it.

So, that was all well and good, don’t y’know,

‘til that one particular Saturday

when young Perry was helping me put fresh thatch

on the roof of my cottage.

I’d just gone down the ladder and picked up

an armload of thatch, put one foot on the ladder

to head back up,

when Perry yells out, “No, Scotty, No! Stop!”

And my word and williwigs if that

imaginary dog

didn’t run between my feet,

knocking me off balance, so I fell and

dropped the whole lot of thatch on the ground!

thoroughly disgusted, I told young Perry

he’d best be teaching his

imaginary dog

some manners!

White Feathers

A white feather,

 Alone

Blowing through a Target parking lot,

  In the desert.

A saucy Irishman once told me,

He found them after his sister died.

They were stuck in grass,

Or doing cartwheels down the road,

Snowflakes from an angel just beyond.

Her death was violent,

Her memory broken,

Peace was offered in each discovery of another

White

Feather.

Legend or myth,

Religion or faith,

The feather was shed from an unseen wing,

As an offering to rest the mind, and continue to love.

I peeled the white feather off my windshield,

And slid it inside my wallet.

A hand from the dead on my shoulder,

A whisper in my ear,

Peace,

  Peace be with you,

Squeeze of my hand and release,

       See me through.

Who it was

  Is my secret to keep.

A smile, a wink,

  Go back to sleep.

Prompt 22, Hour 22

Hour 23: Stories

I am made of borrowed words,

Chipped away,

Gifted,

From the strangers I meet

each, adding a pleat

to the fabric of

My life

And If I were to live,

Live life in earnest

I would write their story.
