Time zone is different however because I’m in Australia. Married to an awesome chap, with Australian cattle dog and ukuleles for additional companionship.

Hello!

Hi! My name is Katie and this is my first year participating in this event. I will be doing the half marathon as all nighters are way out of my mental capacity!

I decided to register on a spur of the moment decision, because I liked the idea of the challenge. I have been mostly working on my novel-in-progress lately, so I relish the chance to do some poetry and put my creativity to the test.

I have been a writer for as long as I can remember, and it is my dream to one day become a published novelist. I work in marketing in New York City, and spend my commutes on the train reading books from my local library. After taking a long break from creative writing over winter due to the stress of my job, I have recently made it a priority to create as often as I can, even if it isn’t any good!

A New Adventure

Hello! This is a brand new adventure for me, as it is my first Poetry Marathon, and just like I love new adventures, I’m looking forward to this one. I love poetry, and since October of 2017, I’ve written at least one, and sometimes three, per day. Sometimes when I’m just letting my mind wander, I notice that my thoughts take the form of poetry, even when I’m not aware…interesting. I am 65 years old, and a retired elementary teacher, teaching for 34 years. Since retiring, I’ve enjoyed having time to spend on writing. I’ve written a book about my teaching years, with all those funny stories provided by my students and my own foolishness. I’ve also published two children’s books. All three books were done through self-publishing companies. I hope to put my poetry into a book at some time, also. I live in Kentucky, and my husband and I are blessed with two children, who have both left the nest. We’re waiting to see what adventures their lives will take. I’m active in my church, and I love to sing, read, and study, along with writing. I love to travel, with my favorite trips being to Hawaii, Israel, and Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina (the setting for many of Nicholas Sparks’ novels). My days are also filled with practicing piano, as I have begun taking piano lessons in my retirement years! As I said, I’m looking forward to the Marathon, and the challenge it will bring. I really don’t know how I’m preparing, other than just continuing to write for practice, and setting my alarms to make sure I’m alert! I’ll be interested to read all the other introductions, and I wish each one success!

Counting down the days!

Hi all! I’m so excited to get started on Saturday.

I’m not sure what to say by way of introduction other than that I just finished a large poetry project for the Omer as part of my spiritual and creative practice. That project ended really well with me having a chapbook of 49 poems. So I’m really looking forward to doing another poem project for a day and seeing what happens.

I also have a Patreon if you really like my work as we are working through the day and want to support me.

Really excited to read all of your stuff and to create things alongside all of you!

another marathon on the horizon!!!

so glad we are doing this again. not gonna lie, as my daughter would say: the poetry marathon is not for the faint of heart. or hand. but it IS for the lover of worded challenges. the lover of variety. even the lover of pushing yourself beyond your imagined limits of endurance.

it is also a fabulous way to connect with other poets … share feedback … learn and discover things about others as well as yourself.

with all that said, this year i’ll be writing from northern VT, which has been home for over 20 years. however i’m soon to resume permanent MA residence. as a recent widow, i will return to the modest cottage by the sea (where I wrote for the last marathon) that has been the home of my heart for many decades.

with me on this writing journey as on others will be one dog and one cat, both approaching ten years of age and both gentle, caring companions. i am likely to listen to music during the marathon; and to alternate hot and cold drinks. i am also very likely to do squats and push-ups between writings to keep the blood flowing to my extremities and avoid cramping of legs, arms or fingers. finally of course i’ll keep a good supply of really dark chocolate at hand. also fresh fruit and roasted almonds.

i’ll compose on my computer in order to save my hands for the important tasks of hydrating and unwrapping chocolates.

Greetings, Fellow Maniacs!

My name is Veronica.
In 1999 my first poem was published in a broadside by Kent State University and I was awarded a $2,500 scholarship for continuing studies.
Due to a nasty experience with a shady professor, my poetry didn’t see the light of day until fairly recently, when I shared a poem to a public poetry page on facebook.
Unbelievably, within 1 hour I was contacted by a credible editor, who requested 15 of my poems for an upcoming Anthology. I didn’t even have to submit.
So, 2 years ago I was published again.
Alas, though I appreciated the credit, this, too became a sour experience and one I regretted, for various reasons.
Point is I haven’t written a word since.
I am suffering a wicked writer’s block the likes of which I haven’t experienced since the late 1990’s.
I’m an old, bitter bitch these days, wondering if I can even call myself a poet anymore.
So I decided to Go Big or Go Home and sign up for this batshit marathon.
If I indeed complete 24 poems in 24 hours I will proudly retain my title.
If I fail, I will be Veronica, former poet and current Identity Crisis Sufferer.
Needless to say, I would like to continue to identify as a poet.
This challenge is ludicrous enough for even me, a well-documented legit maniac.
I’ll sleep when I’m dead, and in 3 days I’ll write 24 poems in 24 hours (because the half-marathon is for wimps) even if I have to submit 24 bad haikus. And, believe me, I write some REALLY bad haikus. They are a last resort.
24 poems in 24 hours or I am hanging up my hat.
I would really like to continue to be a poet, if I can, so wish me luck.
Like I said, I am a legit lunatic and this marathon seems like the next logical step in my midlife crisis.
I am a former bartender and current weirdo residing in Kent, Ohio with dreams of making enough poet-cash to move back to the East Coast of Maryland, which I never should have left, much like my pens and notebooks.
My basic strategy for success is to make sure I’m good and manic at 9am EST on the 22nd.
Not exactly sure how to achieve that, but haven’t ruled out illicit substances (kidding) or contacting and shacking up with my evil (and GORGEOUS) ex (not kidding).
PoetOrNot?
Find out the answer when I do, at 9am June 23rd.
Best of luck,
We’re all crazy,
Best,
Veronica Falletta

Hello Everyone,

This is my first year participating. I am so excited. I am actually moving from Texas to Washington on the day of the marathon. Bad planning…totally but, I couldn’t pass this up. I am always open to improving my writing and I can’t wait to read what you all have to share.
