Hello, I’m psyched!

OK, everyone, I hope this is the right place to introduce myself and say how glad I am to be here.

I have been away from poetry for quite some time but it’s my first true love so I can’t wait to get reacquainted with it.

In preparation I have cleaned off my desk and decorated “my” room with plants and twinkly lights. I have notebooks and a journal at standby. Currently two of my dogs are snoozing on the bed. I think they want to be part of my half-marathon.

I’ve told my partner that Saturday is reserved for my half-marathon effort and that I won’t accept any social plans. I’ve joined the Facebook group and I’m sooooo psyched. Can’t wait to meet many of you. Thank you!

Britton in Blacksburg ~

I grew up a third-culture kid, meaning I was an expat/Army brat throughout childhood. Lived on 3 continents before I was 25. Always moving, creating new ‘homes.’ I’m a turtle, in other words. Because I never fit in, issues of translation & culture ground much of my work. A love of other languages and their music also fascinates me: they go ~ like music with lyrics ~ with the images we tend to define as poetry.

Going for #3!

Most people call me Toni (and every time I say it since I saw the movie Burnt, I chuckle. Little Toni. I’m barely 5 feet). I’ve been writing since I was in elementary school but started poetry at 14 years old. I’m an Army veteran and wish I was still wearing the uniform. They were some of the best years of my life and led me to meeting my husband. I own a cyber security company which keeps me busy full time. I adore animals and realized I’m a crazy cat lady only 6 years ago when I rescued 5 kittens who were abandoned in my neighborhood. I love pizza, French fries, Puerto Rican food (I’m Puerto Rican), boston creme donuts, and, ironically, working out. I published my first book in 2013 and am releasing the second book later this year. I’m nervous again but looking forward to creating the beginnings of a third poetry collection. I will have a buddy this time around who plans to stick with me for the full 24 hours. And we both LOVE coffee! See you all Saturday on the blog!  🙂 – Toni

Here we go again

Hi all! Looking forward to spending the weekend in creating mode. Good to see so many familiar faces and seeing so many excited newcomers! Happy writing everyone!

Introduction: H.J

Hello, everyone!

My name is H.J – I’m an author of multiple genres, from Canada. This is my first marathon event, but I’m so excited to be here!

I was nine years old and in 4th grade when I first discovered my love for writing. By the time I reached my early teens, I knew I wanted to write professionally. Then, at 17, I wrote my first full-length project; which was self-published 2 years later.

I began with poetry, but have no “preferred” genre. I’ve written everything from Children’s books to Mature Fiction and memoirs. As of 2016 (on Amazon and Kobo), 3 of my 5 existing titles are rated “5-stars”; the other 2 have yet to be rated at all.

Thank you for your time!
I wish the best of luck to everyone.

You may also support me with coffee!
Thanks!

Poetic Procrastination

I ought to be writing my novel, so naturally I’ve signed up to a 24-hour poetry marathon. Because why not?

I think I need to write my own version of John Finnemore’s ‘Procrastination’ song, in which I list all the many and extremely necessary tasks I’ve been doing rather than work on my book. A book I very much want to write, but for some reason keep avoiding. Hmm, feelings to explore through poetry this weekend, perhaps?

Anyway, enough about that. I’m returning to the poetry marathon after a three-year break, and raring to go. It was encouraging to look back at some of my posts from previous years and realise that they were not completely awful. Not especially good, but better than my prose writing at the time. And due to get better, I hope.

Introduction

Greetings, my name is Lisa Dawn. I am from Western NC. I am looking forward to the half marathon. I am hoping to use this technique/forum to prompt some inspiration and gain some insight.
