Those Things Remembered

size of a nation unveiled

where did Howard Hughes go

famous do you know the history

from one cryptic tweet

no one hunts small deer

a rising star never apologizes

the founders never discussed this

along the way is now

mightier than the sword

values don’t disappear

legends values exist

memories of a very unusual man

nonconformist aesthetic

pursuit is living life

A spider, any spider

There is the story of a spider who sat next to a little girl and scared her.

There is the story of a spider who spend most of the cold winter months hanging on the ceiling of my bedroom. We didn’t scare each other, we lived alongside each other. And when early spring came he stung me in the right ankle, run out of the window never to be seen again. How is that for gratitude??

There is a story of a spider who kept being in the wrong place at the wrong time,

Sometimes people were kind enough to avoid the spider and stepped around it.

Sometimes, they picked it up to move it out of harm’s way.

Sometimes people just step on it.

And next day another spider would be at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Scaring himself to death by looking into a pocket mirror fallen out of somebody’s pocket.

Hour 7

Inside a Squirrel

Struck still on the sidewalk,

pedestrians pass by

oblivious, even to the

fluttering

butterfly that’s caught my eye.

Unfreezing my stature,

I flee left and prance right

running

toward the next branch in sight.

I come to a trunk,

I jump from my paws,

gripping,

the bark with the might of my claws.

Reaching the top,

my tail swishing and

swaying,

relieved I escaped

with minimal spraying

from the guard dog’s

slobbering.

Tailgate

Iridescent, invisible strands

of webbing are affixed to

the taillight and bumper

of the old car in the space next to mine.

The round brown body of the small spider

patrols the web

looking for passengers

or any others

waiting for a ride.

Hour Nine

Goodnight Spider

October is the Month of the Spider

those eight-legged hunters, pregnant and fat

hang low, with wide-cast webs

to catch the most unwary meals

for ravenous mothers-to-be.

She hangs from her net, lazy and gravid

letting it do the work for her,

for she knows that her work is almost done.

October is the Month of Life and Death;

she was not built for cold, and as she spins her sac

she ebbs, fails, and falls into the brown crackling leaves

among the shells of her prey.

Spiders everywhere

A spider in my bed

A spider in my car

A spider in my cloths

Spiders everywhere

White spiders

Black spiders

Brown spiders

And even cotton candy spiders

In my bed

In my car

In my cloths

Oh no! Everywhere, every color

I’m glad! It was just a dream…

Hour 9 – Prompt 9 – Creepy

You appear out of nowhere
and you grow up so fast
You are here one moment
and disappear in the next

Your ability to thrive under
all conditions is amazing
You make your presence
felt, in every home

You may be small, but
you spit venom and are dangerous
Creepy, crawly, and feared by most
Spiders, that is your identity

(c) Vijaya Gowrisankar

Dark Creature – Ode to a spider.

Dark Creature

Dark creature creeping.

I was not expecting your presence in my life.

Why do you have to invade my space?

You cause fear and strife.

Exit my abode.

I will not tolerate your presence.

I am in control.

Of at least this small terror, yes, I am in control.

Hour 9

Almost to the half way point!! And still going strong.

Spider Dreams

Spiders crawling everywhere

Over my desk full of notebooks

On my bed into the covers

All over my arms and legs

Skittering over me

Almost tickling if I wasn’t screaming

I snap up awake with crawling skin

Nothing but blankets around me
