24 Poems ~ 24 Hours
I am strong enough to lay through the alone nights only to rise with expectation..
“The night is for sleeping” they told me
Little did they know, I was working through divine decree
Burning the midnight oil, I was setting my thoughts free
I was letting my stories see
And it is in the darkness that I could best be
The most fruit-yielding tree
Wouldn’t you agree?
Pardon me
from your attitude
how rude of me
to stand it any longer
the fragrant foul
of your audacious
tongue I couldn’t
welcome home
any longer
the questioning
the complaining
the putting me down
I might as well say
thank you and kiss
your face, when you
bring home the
two faced clown
have a nice day
computes to a
a verbal slap in the
face it’s rhetorical
anyway, you don’t really
care about my day
as much as you care
about me staying out
of your way yet you
are always in my face
breathing down my
neck and calling me
whatever words eclipse
your tainted lips
a punch in the gut
is your how are you?
and I return it with
a newly learned karate
kick. I’m fine thank you
I’ll expect you out by
the end of the hour
or else, there will be a
welcome home sign
waiting for you at the
morgue, with all the
courage I could muster
I evicted my sickness
before it took both of
us under.

I know. Two haiku in a row. And, I cheated a syllable on the third line.
Cousin Lymon’s phone

startles Amelia.
Blinded by the courtesy of a folk
She danced together with them.
Laughing at their jokes,
for all that was actually her.
Its time to be parted, for this time, or maybe forever
Two-some jerked her right, attracts her eyes, and was left au fait
of her reality and their betrayal.
the receptionist’s office
acknowledging my booking
“Welcome home”
i would like to say
my dream came true
next to the elevator
was a psychoanalyst’s office
i would have liked
to knock on his door
and lie down
on the couch
“Thank you”
for looking at me
before my plane takes off
someone at last
showing me priority
The night is for sleeping.
Unless you are an owl on the hunt,
Or a bat out for a nighttime flight.
The night is for sleeping.
Despite the howling winds,
And thunder rumbling everywhere.
The night is for the sleep.
As I scoff at the irony.
Sleeps sings it’s teasing lullaby.
As I fight for two more poems.
He remains our joy, our sole consolation
He protects us against disappointment
Alongside us He stands in all weather
We are His reason to live and to die
Our delight is His favor
We are His sole prize and pleasure
We cannot let him lose our affection and defense
the eyes watching me
from behind the grass
the best green eyes
looking at me
holding my view
for more seconds
than my true love
the gracefulness
of this

stray cat
The hours move fast yet slow,
it’s almost morning, did you know,
my eyes are heavy, my head falls,
my body is giving out, I grab the wall.
nodding off , here and there, officially sleepy,
don’t think it’s hit, tomorrow I may be weepy,
some times we get what we are seeking,
one thing is for sure , the night is for sleeping .
