Persieds

Fresh out of inspiration,

I seek the shooting stars–

see three bright slashes

in infinite distance

and several pretty close

(the latter, moths, which streetlamps

make almost comparable).

A cloud of spiderweb

blurrily catches light

between electric wires.

My heart ticks against my ribs,

quivers in the triangle

beneath my breastbone.

I am a’rhythm with the crickets.

Another, I gasp–

someone has taken

a penknife to the heavens!

I return, warm with gratitude,

to a room that smells

like a holy day.

Letter Written From the Edge of Delirium

Dear 1986 Self,
I was once told I had a bright future,
But I never bought the shades
or learned to read the map,
so losing my way has been the least of my worries.
Though your effort noble,
the dissipation of faith
in (of all things) humanity renders
it useless. Hope abandoned me, and I am left to face the wolves alone. A fitting end to modern
struggles. May you find solace
in my status as a lost cause,
keeping guilt at bay
and your purpose true.

Love,
Me

Companions

From the painting ‘Coalition’ by Kevin Peterson.

The fox, leading from the front, nose twitching

scenting the cold autumn air for danger,

masked by fumes from distant traffic,

his early afternoon shadow solid.

His demeanour determined a purpose to this journey.

The young girl her blonde curls dance

as she strides out beside the bear, her protector,

bright red woollen jacket matching the goggle eyed hat with tassels,

striped tights and black furry boots complete the image of happiness and warmth.

Safe and secure with her companions.

The bear comfortable walking,

padding softly across the harsh, flat, cold concrete of this man-made path.

At the rear, confident of the foxes ability to lead, he guards his companions.

His size is all they need to feel safe.

There is a sharp taste of late autumn in the air.

Their presence disturbs the small residents of this urban garden

who scurry through fallen leaves that crackle and rustle.

The cold white light strikes the defaced walls that jut into this poor excuse of nature.

The garish graffiti , signed by past painters, hurts the eye and jars the senses a hardened, flat decaying surface.

Untouched and unloved for an age, the artist’s monikers forgotten, they’ve moved on, grown up and left.

The companions, their warmth, determination and purpose pass through this grim scene untouched.

Closest beat #15

There’s a rhythm in my chest,

beating out a tune, one of my best,

it’s the closest beat to me, it keeps me alive,

(even when I’ve never took it for a test drive).

I was a born with a heart,

not just to drive me to Walmart,

(even when the reckless drivers

have made numerous people heart attack survivors).

Frankenstein didn’t have a heart,

(someone probably had to give him a kick start),

but I do, and I don’t know what I’d do without it,

I’ll have to admit.

My heart is my closest beat,

and it didn’t come with an iTunes receipt,

so there’s really no downside,

to having a heart. Unsatisfied?

You Remind Me

You remind me of:

That special moment when everything you thought would go wrong; goes right

The type of day when storms are forecast but instead the sun comes out new and bright

The breath of celebration when you’ve accepted failure, only to realize that you did succeed.

When you think you have lost everything, and wake to find you have all that you need.

There are times that I want you, times that I crave you, times that I need you to care

And in some way, every time, I find that you are always there.

I can never forget, ignore, or leave your love.

You’re so good for me my angel from above

I can never deny your love, hide your love, I’ll always be and believe in your love.

Not an ordinary life

Dear you,

I am you, I am your failure, don’t look around but look at me.

Look at your failure

Because you always run away whenever you see me

You rant at so little time, at so little opportunities, at your misfortune, at your loveless life.

Dear you,

I have seen so much

though I have yet to understand everything

though I have so little experience

but lets journey together

your young

and my weaknesses

we complete each other

Dear you,

Dear . . . Dear . . . Dear . . .

Dear my inner self,

lets unpause what had been paused long ago

start the bike

O’

the bike does not need an engine

It need us to paddle

lets paddle!

Sometimes…

I think of that tree.

I think about you~

and I think about me.

Sometimes…

I feel the bark at my back.

Our limbs entwined~

and your body in mine.

Tribute Exudes My Very Soul

Open my nose to gratitude’s aroma.
Open my ears to love’s exhale.
Then I will truly glorify, illumine, fortify, and inspire.
Please provide comfort and healing,
and my tongue will speak wisdom.
Giving thanks in expression,
with tributes exuding my very soul.

Dear Beloved

Your strength is immeasurable. Your heart pure

Your ideas are magic and your commitment sure

Of the thoughts words and actions that brought you here

No matter how long you stay
