Incantation Part II.

and you’re smoking cigarettes, drawing out bitterness,

lacking emotions, yet you come in with the fury,

come raging against me, your eyes spill oblivion and claw their way out of pain.

and you’re smoking cigarettes and taking hits from the pipe,

higher than God could ever be, in the heavens you swarm, bees buzz in your wrapped brain,

haunted by the disdain for the world, ushering me into a new world, telling me to trust no one,

but I trust you, so what is there to cling to, when all we do is rush about,

pretending we’re gods, but less holy when we fuck our way to the top,

but not on top of each other, in front of the kingdom, the gates are golden and bleeding,

these veins pulse waiting for you to get another drink,

while I shuffle my words in my back pocket,

watch you cascade, an incantation to the demise of your past life.

You kill every opportunity to rise, this power is cutting you up,

I am involved, so what does it mean, I could never contain all of it,

in one place, as the rhythm glided on your skin, to be apart and pull apart,

all transaction.

And you’re smoking cigarettes, brushing against me, some sort of magic in the air,

god-like, but every reason to be more impressive, it suggests, we are rising once more,

in the dissolution,

an incantation, written in our discipline, in your bitterness,

i will kiss away every agony with my touch,

and watch the fires burn behind your brown eyes, dead eyes come back to life in the dirty midnight,

where sunset came and took all pleasure out of you,

what to do, we have some magic here, I want none, so you take all of it.

tiny obsessions

brewing you
like ambrosia..
the single most
activity i look forward to..
i love the waft of your beans
being roasted and ground,
love the feel of your grounds
seeping through my skin,
it captivates me still –
how the sight of you
sends my face into a spiralling smile,
how the existence of you –
gushing down my cup
sets my heart free,
of its demons and clutches
just to be whole
just to be me..
coffee –
you define so very many parts
of the person i call me..

Bloodmoon

The moon prompt is here.

My favorite of all

The blood moons and half moons

The cloud moons and no moons

I have howled on them all.

Reflected on lakes

Shining through my canopy

Singing the glory of the sun

The blood moon is my moon

Glowering with spare sunlight

The blood splattered from my breastbone.

An Extra’s Life

You know who I am.

I see it in your face.

Yes, I shop at the grocery store
just like “regular folk,”
and I’ll fill my own gas tank, too,
if you want to watch.

Bring your camera.

Did I attend Cannes?

No, but, I sent a cast of my ass,
which is the only part of me
that makes it into most of my movies.

Yes, my. If a woman with a six-figure salary can claim
my ass is hers,
then I can claim her star vehicle is my movie.

Did we get along?
What is this?
I never met the, excuse me, talent.

I was usually ushered in to film
the scene her contract stipulated
she wouldn’t do.

Fame or no,
I got to stipulate
that inessential crew were barred
during my body cameo.

Pissed her off, I heard.

I make a good living, thank you.
That torso in the Tom Ford promo?

You bet it’s not Miss-The-World-Loves-Me.

If you’ll excuse me,
I’ve got a yoga cycle class.

Aged to Perfection

Getting older
Why do we resist?
Have you ever considered
The alternative?

I love the idea
Of growing in years
For Wisdom comes with it
Learned through laughter and tears

I have earned every line
And every gray hair
My beauty refined
With each passing year

As time goes by
We surrender our youth
But I wouldn’t go back
To tell you the truth

I like who I am
And all that I’ve become
I’ve grown into myself
Much more than when young

I stand in my strength
My power and glory
I speak my mind
And write my own story

There are still chapters left
I’ve still much to give
I plan to contribute
For as long as I live

Age is just a number
It has no meaning really
I can do what I want
It’s all up to me

So I choose to live fully
I choose to be free
I choose new adventures
I won’t let a number define me.

If you lose sight of the moon

If you lose sight of the moon

There’s a spare

In the lake

If you lose sight of yourself

There are stars

In the canopy

If you lose sight of me

Feel beneath your breastbone

I’m in there

Come Away

Come away with me
from city rush and lights
A canopy of stars
Awaits us on this night

We’ll take my jeep off-road
And find some mud to play
Drop a line in the lake
And just forget the day

The moon will be our clock
We have time to spare
We’ll just lay there and dream
And forget our every care

So come with me my darling
Forget the daily grind
We’ll fall asleep together
And find our peace of mind

Sleeping at the lake

Summer nights at the lake
frequently found me asking
if I could go to bed early,
thus confounding my elders
who knew from others the
battles waged getting
visiting grandchildren in bed

but we were studious viewers
of the channel 7/12 news
with special attention paid to
the weather forecast in which
they always made note of the
status of that night’s moon

that crucial information
to the fishermen of Minnesota
lake country was also a note
of early-to-bed glory for me
my downstairs bedroom faced
Horseshoe Lake – a glistening
moon on gently lolling water
was the visual lullaby I
longed to fall asleep to

In the morning, I would
awaken at first light,
waves softly lapping at sandy
shore, as content to just
lay there in solitude as I
was to go to bed early
the night before to just
lay in my bed
watching the moon,
waiting for the sun
never once caring if
the fish would bite or not

#6 Belonging

As I walk through the woods, I am overcome with pungent oxygen… cedar as incense for the soul. The branches overhead enfold me, caressing my senses with gentle divinity. There is no need for altars, pews, and lecturing with words. I am in the church of all… the abundant acceptance of god’s own symphony.

Whispering wind blows

Speaking amongst the branches

I know who I am.
