  1. A persona poem/woman in luncheon of the boating party by renoir

I am playing with my dog

In

His painting

You think you know me

Because you know him

But

I am indifferent to him

And to you

For me it is the day

The dog

And none of these at my table

Who could know how I feel

My husband ignores me

To talk with a young woman we just met

The painter, he takes it all in

With a quick sketch and a splash of

Color,

Most people will say,

What a lovely dog she has

How many of them will notice

I wonder that only the dog

Has compassion for my broken heart.

Poem 11- Through Genghis’ Eyes

My take on the homeless prompt, was not expecting that I would write this at all. Late night writing magic? Just spent a while googling Mongol culture before I penned this down, to add a little authentic touch to my imagination.

You laugh at me today, oh young nobleman

You laugh at us and our funny savage ways

You grew up with a hard roof above your head

I, in what you would presume is a flimsy tent

The icy winds were my roof

You grew up training under careful tutelage

I was born with a blood clot in my hand

And fought my first battles in the steppes

Soil and sky were my teachers; I was trained by the best

You grew up eating wholesome hot meals

On hard days, I survived on game meat

The predators themselves have fed me their strength

I may be a nomad

But I am not homeless

This earth is my home

And I am here to reclaim it from you

And tomorrow, when my army crushes you to death

I am certain she will be pleased with my gift

No Pity

They call it homeless, I guess

I say I’m home-free

The style of life I choose to live is purely up to me
So forgive me when I’m confused by your pity,
I pity you
Spending most your days doing things that you don’t want to do

In order to what, survive?
Or should I say maintain your excess?
Your flatscreen, your A/C, your mortgage, haircuts for your pets?

You think the need to sacrifice the prime years of your life for things
Is better than sacrificing creature comforts for freedom and all the joy it brings?

Please…

Keep your cars and fancy cheese, your prozac and sleeping pills
Your mattresses and waitresses and need to purchase all your thrills

I wake up with the sun and treat each day as the unknown
I relish my autonomy like you relish your home
And best of all, to have this freedom I don’t need to pay
While you live a life of servitude and work 8 or more hours every day
I’m doing what I will and going where I want and living as I please
The only thing to pity is your society.

We’re Regulars. Regular customers.

We eat here at least once a week.

They know what we like to eat.

We don’t need menus.

We’re friendly and chat with the wait staff.

We know each other by name.

The cook says Hello.

We tip well.

We sometimes openly discuss our

Religious and political beliefs.

We hope they like us. Really like us,

And don’t make fun of us behind our backs.

Or throw away personal possessions we might accidentally leave.

Or secretly wish us harm.

Or spit in our food.

Fragrant Garden

A courtyard of dreams
Alive with entwined honeysuckle vines
and ancient roses
Musical sounds of small bright blue birds
and busy buzzing honeybees
Dancing and twirling, bold beautiful butterflies

They come to visit
They come to play
My fragrant garden of peace
Sunlit or Moonlit
A place to read
A place to paint
A place to ponder
A place for solace
A place to be

The darkness came swift
Carried on loud grey heavy winds of booming bomb blasts
From beyond the garden walls
Scorched earth and burning trees
Invaded and infected all that was
Broken butterfly bodies and wings littered the cobblestone
Vines burned and fell
Crushed by crumbling walls
All became silent
All became dark
For hours, for days, for an eternity.

And then,
Something small moving in tiny ways
Hidden behind the mangled dry brush
A sparkle
A tiny twinkle
Perhaps a flame?
A hint and whisper of gossamer wings
A firefly
A source of light in the depths of darkness
A reason to smile
A reason to believe
A reason to be.

Houses#11

Look at those people , stuck in this life,

Being the typical, husband or wife,

Doing as the government says, every day,

I would not do that ever, if I have it my way.

People in their houses, typical Barbie and Ken,

More like sheople, then women and men,

I don’t need a house , to know who I wanna be,

There are millions of you , and just a handful of me.

People call me crazy , not paying for a house,

Am I the crazy one? They are the cat chasing the mouse,

They will never be satisfied, buying their fancy things,

Cars, houses, clothes, boats, and expensive rings.

I had a home, it came a with wife and family too,

When she got bored, she left and we were through,

She took me for all I had, left me on the streets,

Now everyone that see’s me, turns the other cheek.

Under Your Gaze

I live under your gaze

in a box

by the bus bench

in the bushes.

Though our eyes

never meet,

not a glance my way,

I feel your shame.

Don’t.

Judge my story.

You’ll find it in my eyes.

Prompt 11- Bob The Luckiest Man Alive

I met Bob for the first time

Four long years ago

He had a car then

He walked slow but deliberate

His hair cut, washed and combed

In his Sunday best

He always left a tip

A big smile, a friendly personality

He was the luckiest man alive.

He disappeared for a while.

He returned without a car

Without a hair cut

His clothes more tattered

Pushing a walker laden with his life

His body more frail, his smile more crooked

Still he would tell you whether you asked or not

He was the luckiest man alive

He told me his story one day

Parts at least

He had been hit by a drunk driver

He had been in a coma

Woke up, unable to walk

His wife deserted him

His new life was hard work

But he was alive

he learned to walk again.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses had been there

And every Sunday he tries to make church

Whenever he possibly can

God has blessed him

He is the luckiest man alive.

He pushes his walker, sometimes attempting to run

Across a street or along the highway

His legs barely working

He has almost gotten hit

Too many times to mention.

He told me the worst part

Was never feeling clean.

I saw him pee by the side of the road once

The bathroom too far to go.

He always tells me, he tells us all

He is the luckiest man alive

Once I found him asleep on the sidewalk

He looked dead

The police came, they knew him well

He had walked too far and just couldn’t go on

They shewed him away

Sent him down the highway

He struggled to stand

But he made it a ways

Bob never gives up

Never gets upset

He is the luckiest man alive

He lives in whatever parking lot he can

Tries to be a good citizen

Cockroaches fall from his bags

He has a tarp for when it rains

People buy him food sometimes

He smiles and chats

His hair long and tangled

No one really cares, no one really helps

But Bob will tell you

He will always tell you

He is the luckiest man alive.

I wish I could help him, take him in

Help him find warmth and love and safety

But each day, he struggles along

Alone

Step by careful step

One long day into the next

He is a good man, a kind man,

He tells us all

Anyone that will listen

He is the luckiest man alive

I believe he means it too.

Ode to Alison

You bring me sunshine on a cloudy day,

Your smile is like a shelter from the rain,

When we laugh together then my soul sings,

And when we are quiet I am at peace

Your friendship is one of my favorite gifts

That God has chosen to bestow on me,

Our memories will stay and never die,

To bring us joy when we need it the most,

You’ve always been there and you always will,

Forever in my heart my dear, you’ll be.

Purple House

I want to live in the purple house

we used to pass

when we drove

to visit our grandparents.

Mommy would laugh at me,

my sisters would tease me, yet I

still want to live in that purple house.

Perhaps that house would be near the ocean.

My dream is to live near the ocean in the purple house

with a few other wishes thrown in as well, but let it begin

with the purple house and let it be near the ocean.
