Who built those eyes

That tell me lies

From the superficial POV

Of your digital lens

Which clicks likes

Like batting lashes

Blush faced emojis

Replace blood flushed faces

You binge on

Biased realities

truths washed away by filters

Characters in one hundred and forty

Escaping the empathy that your missing

For your own sorrows,

Loss, hopes of tomorrows

With a voice

Hiding behind the radiated screen,

Hallowed out

Because you are dying to be heard,

By the artificial persona,

That social media gave you.

Nightlight

The gentle holy glow

That chases away the dark

Sitting by my side

On this silent night

An owl looking into the dark

Silently comforting me

No dark thing will find you tonight

No nightmare will wake you tonight

As long as I am here

The Eyes That Pierce

How can he look? A picture that speaks

his eyes are intense, they do speak to me,

the eyes pierce at me; intense look they have

intense as the friendship we’ve shared.

Comfort they give, the piercing brown eyes

he’ll listen to me,

he won’t sugarcoat, perhaps that’s what helps

there’s no cliche; in what he says.

His friendship is real, he is the real deal

friends;

from pictures you stare

yet somehow you’re there,

your piercing look; and your caring stare.

Chuckwagon

Ned’s got her packed tight

With every pigeon hole layered

Good stuff’s hid out a sight

‘Cept fer aspirin, bayered.

Ned’s the doc and also the cook

Watch fer liniment smellin’ like oil

Don’t lose those recipes in the big book

Some is fer food, but there’s one fer a boil.

He can save you from saddle sore pain

Those first days on the trail

Don’t get no slivers nor thistles twain

‘Cause Ned’ll pull ’em ’til yer pale.

The first morning’s flapjacks

Fragrant with cinnamon

Syrup coatin’ their backs

Sure you can eat a ton.

You’re first to gather lunch wood

As Ned prepares biscuits and elk stew

You’re wantin’ chokecherry jelly if you could

Boy was that meal fit for a king, like you knew.

Ned’s got flour to his eyebrows

You can smell those apple tarts

Wish you had ice cream now

You know better ’cause you got some smarts.

Instead you sneak a second for your watch tonight

Pull out your mouth organ lullaby

And tuck those cows in plenty tight

‘Cause a stampede would yell yer good bye.

Late night boiled coffee with yer saved treat

Shortens your time on watch

But Ned’s always on his feet

Instead of restin’ in his sleepin’ notch.

#11 Orphan Annie

The vet called,
“I’ve got a dog for you,
if you want her.
She just wandered in.
Some part Brittany Spaniel.”

We called her Annie
for Orphan Annie.
Annie liked being petted,
playing chase with the kids,
going to the lake.

But, food.
Oh, Annie LOVED food.
Dog food.
Cat food up on a counter.
An entire bag
of individually wrapped
chocolate candies,
including the wrappers
and part of the bag
before we caught her.
Half a watermelon,
including the rind.
Any
food.

Annie stayed for months.
Then one summer day
Annie took off again.
The vet said, “Maybe, she was just a traveler.
Some dogs are.
Say for a while.
eat for a while.
and move on.”

We missed you,
Annie.

Family

When your with family, nothing else matters,

When your with family, all fear seems to scatter!

Family helps to calm, love and heal.

They help to laugh, cry and deal.

They help us through the darkest hour and bring us to the light.

They are forever ours to be and they’re never out of sight!

Beyond Amazed

There aren’t enough words to describe

all the admiration I have inside,

For the very dear man I call my husband and my friend.

He doesn’t get stirred by the roaring wind.

No drama, no problem he can’t figure out,

No upset, no anger, no need to shout.

Understanding, kind, bringing peace of mind,

Thoughtful, caring never leaving me in a bind.

So many things he’s taught me, to listen to other’s,

The success of how to be a Mom but not a Mother.

He continuously waters my soul that once was crazed,

Never before have I ever been so inspired, I’m beyond amazed.

I Wear No Armor (half marathon #11)

Leftover sun falls on my shoulders

Like feeling, toxins, and words;

My past.

It wants me to wear it

Like a cloak to protect me

From the future.

It doesn’t want me to acknowledge it.

It wants me to live through it.

It wants me to be it.

It wants me to be everything

That I was before,

To hold onto and grasp it tightly

Like a quilt stitched of things left behind.

It doesn’t know that it is fading away.

It is a memory,

Nothing more than

A fading ray of light.

Soon, it’ll be lost

In the equivalency of a dream.

As the sun continues its way to rest,

The grasp of past days

Fall off my shoulders.

My future shines on the face of the moon.

I feel the rising of indigo and navy

With the clustering of stars.

The night surrounds me

As I wear no armor.
