the death tender

her home was outside the village

near the stables

quiet, restful, separate

she spent her time reading, or writing, or tending to her flowers

she had a cat that liked to nap

she was the death tender

summoned when necessary

needed

tucked away otherwise

she arrived smelling of star anise

that left a taste on your tongue even after she left

from breathing in, and breathing out

the anointed scent of journey

beyond

her breathing whispered Pachelbel’s canon

the one in D

the parade dirge

keeping everything moving along as it should, as it would

the death tender shook out the thin veil

that wrapped itself around the room

so instead of haunting it was inviting

silvery wisps of blessed light peaking through

she prayed in ancient prose to ancient ones who had long ago

slipped into the light

an ancient light growing brighter

never extinguishing

bringing ancient and present together in one star,

the return home

after death

the death tender returned

to her own home

outside the village

near the stables

for now

knowing one day the ancient would pull her through

to return to being

stardust scented anise

Poem 6

each moment
tiny sparks
flying, trying
to ignite
anger

But with
stable mind
developed by
practicing
mindfulness,
concentration with
patience, persistance
and practice

these sparks
die down in
no time
as there is
nothing to
hold them.

Prompt 6

Train Tour

Slowly they drift toward the station, iron filings drawn to a magnet. They ignore the steady passage of the freight wagons. They have no time for the sleek, smooth virgin as she rushes down the tracks. Awed into silence, they await the return of a legendary hero.

In green livery,
The Flying Scotsman whistles
As he steams past them.

Cling

He let her cling. And that was a new for her. His being still. Absorbing her chaos. Waiting patiently. For her waves to crash around him. Till her storms had found a shore. This was a new. A rock. A solid rock. Enveloping her. Towering over her. It was peaceful. Like she had found land. Found an anchor.

She hugged him…..no…gripped him in a tightening vice. All her energies. All her pending hugs grabbed and thrust into that encircling moment.

It broke her heart. Like she had never known it broken. To let him go. Goodbyes. They hurt.

Its dawn again

The moon left the side of the night

The sun calls back.

10 and Ten Minus 8

Just back from Germany.
I already miss King Ludwig,
His castle imagination,
His operatic grotto,
His mountainous solitude.
History tell us
he was as tall as an aspen,
as rich as Walt Disney,
as modern as electricity.
He walked among the common people,
yet ate alone. Who wouldn’t want to live
with one’s head in the clouds?

Saudade

Small corners contain hidden remnants, a fragment rolled tightly, inscribed with words beyond kenning. This was spoken across the dimensions, time, and space. I am that I am. A child’s toy, a box filled with plastic animals, a stain on the ceiling. Breathing in the dark, spreading flame mirrored on the wall. In the air is a wheel, a circle, hands holding hands. Not one of them is missing.

Time inverts itself

Lives beyond the Vale

Keep plodding! #4

“Horseback through the mountains,

Trek up the hills,

Use a kayak through the churning rivers.”

Those were the rules given- at the bus stop by the water fountains.

Dehydration and exhaustion,

our two main foes.

Spinning heads and aching bones

yet we go on, ignoring precaution.

Sweating profusely,

foreheads furrowed with fatigue.

Strained muscles lacking strength or stamina

Shall we go on? Absolutely.

Burning

Amidst the growing chaos

in the recesses of my mind

a tiny flame is burning

for reasons yet to find

each day it grows stronger

brighter, hotter still

creating such a longing

an emptiness to fill

nothing can contain it

out of all control

it burns deep within me

for reasons i don’t yet know

I seek to find its meaning

i cry deep in the night

to solve this burning mystery

has now become my plight
