If my laptop were personified #5

What if my laptop were personified?

I ask myself on a sunny day.

It would have fainted at the slightest of turbulent weather.

And it would probably have inhuman DNA.

Won’t connect to the wifi,

battery would die in less than two hours,

I said beginning to tick of items on a long list of things

wrong with my laptop and maybe yours.

It would be like an irritating best friend,

always there and always unreliable,

always decieving and always pranking,

but my love for it is unclassifiable.

And I would pamper it with gifts,

and expensive software upgrades,

Avast Premium doubling as life insurance,

as my laptop punches in the decades.

Home full of Human “Nature”

Days like these offer no time for resting. Sun beams lighting up skies of wonder and opening doors for pleasant pondering.  A towel laid out on a warm sandy beach is the vision of where I see myself. I open my eyes. The dark sky trickles into my pupils. Reddened with fallen tears, one for each second on anguish. I won’t let him win. I wake my only child and race to the door with a duffel bag of belongings. Searching for belonging. For a community that would open my mind to a self-esteem not rooted in his abuse. Naturally, I pause for a second as a reach the door. I glance at the home I have so strategically structured.

My nature shifts and changes,
Dawning a new day,
Closed doors opening windows.

where I am more than just complete
where I am secure and where I complete
others where we fit each other
where we share the best parts and the worst parts
of ourselves and accept everything we take
and accept everything we give where we are equal
where together we are more than
the sum of our parts

Where Is She

Her long light brown braids, bouncing on her back as she ran to her new bicycle. 6-years-old she had just learned to ride with the two wheels. Her Daddy was there, to set his little girl free. He sent her only down the block. The innocence of little children before they become jaded. Proudly, she giggled as she rode back to Daddy’s safe arms. By then, Mommy had come out to see her first ride, on her own. Since it was lunch time, Mommy took her gentle small hand into her warm bigger hand, and lead her inside for her favorite. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Daddy put the pink bicycle safely near the front door. After lunch, she wanted to ride again. Besides, her pink t-shirt with the fringed bottom, and her lacy pink shorts and her favorite pink shiny sneakers; she had to ride by her best friends house, one block away. And off she went, and she never arrived, or came back. They found her bicycle in a field two weeks later.

She flew on pink wings;
We turned around and she’s gone.
We should have held on.

IV. Snapshots in Real Time

Gloucester_2015-09-08

Without meaning to,
I’ve taken mental snapshots
throughout my life
that never leave me.
Random things like

A boy crossing the street
in front of the house on Poplar Street

My grandfather waiting for me
On the train platform in Ocala

The sapphire blue of
the Mediterranean sea

Sometimes the images
ambush me when I least
expect it, flickering past,
demanding I look,
insisting I remember.

I must make a confession, though.
I have a paper bag in my
dresser drawer that contains
12 rolls of undeveloped 35 mm film,
some more than two decades old.
I have no idea what images they
contain, and no desire to find out.
I can only imagine the sleep I’d lose
if my brain ever got a hold of them.

What is it?

What is it

That makes you go?

Makes you wake up

Go outside and survive

Makes you interact with people

That you may lose one day

makes you take a walk

That may end with your life

Makes you smile

When you want to cry

Makes you look at clouds

And dream of sun

Takes you from a dull class

To flying between birds

Makes you look at calendar

And prepare for tomorrow

What is it

That makes you hope

For a better tomorrow?

It’s hope to finish this Marathon that has me awak,  just so you know.

Bird Muse #2: The Cardinals

Bird Muse #2:   The Cardinals

Frannie Z

He is a tease.

He flows red across the lawn

and glimmers into the highest tree.

But when you think you’ve spotted him,

he races away.

You’d swear he’s laughing,

but you’re not quite sure

how a cardinal laughs.

His wife knows.

She flies over and around.

Never quite with him –

why make it easy?

She shunts back and forth

on the branches near him,

sliding off a small twig-end,

then edging the far leaves

Overhead.

In autumn they both march their red

and red brown, respectively,

into piles of darker red,

as if to match and challenge.

It’s the male’s metallic “thrip”

you hear when you try to search

them by sound.

But you could swear,

from the way she flaunts

her spins

while prodding the nest,

as if to sharpen her breadth

of bearing

-even though the books don’t say-

That it would be the female

Who sings.

His gentle purring vibrates the chair, as his whiskers dance to the rhythm of his dream. He chases crystal winged butterflies and downy grey mice across the fields of playful daffodils bouncing their sun brilliant heads in the winds teasing fingers. Twitching ear tips give silent clues that his dream world is only minutes away from awakening.

gravely tongue flickers

between sharp pearly fangs

mini lion awakes
