2023 Full Marathon: Hour 4

Hour 4: Who we could be – I knew i wanted this to be a generic poem about suicide and mental health and I think there’s definitely room to spiff it up, but I took time to get food and feed animals and stretch and feed myself. I rolled the mental health dice and posted about those as well. I got things set up to be productive for the next few hours and I’m proud of that. So here’s the poem:

If only/ you/ could have/ found/ it in your/ heart/ to stay.// We could/ be/ gardening/ and sharing coffee/ we could/ be/ painting promises/ and singing daydreams/ into a vibrant sky/ into the world// If only/ you/ could have/ become/ a gentle breeze/ a midnight melody/ or a future/ that could have/ changed all the/ futures.// If only/ you/ could have/ seen/ just how incredible/ we could be/of we/ just stuck/ together.// -M. Nyctinasty

Tracking the movement of the sun

Welcoming admirers in bright sunshine

Folding as daylight decreases

Resting out of the limelight until sunrise

Opening again in bold colors

Redemption, Hour Four

Redemption

Cold, the chapel where he and I wed,
cold, the reception after,
cold, the family I joined,
cold, body and soul were lost.

Lost, my faith in unity,
lost, my good times after,
lost, my hope for pleasures shared,
lost, my past, alone.

Alone, I yearned for faith again,
alone, I wandered after,
alone, in child visitations I ached,
alone, waiting to be found.

Found, my faith was restored,
found, I waited after,
found, our families were introduced,
found, we two were joined.

Joined, we were in summer’s warmth,
joined, we are together,
joined, our blended families,
joined, you and I, forever.

Prompt 4 – Our Wedding and Beyond

Our wedding took place

And now we live with the consequences

A life with one another

Seemed so romantic, back then,

But we’ve come to realize

That this little contract

Is not as simple as many would think.

Practically,

The only effective way

To remain true to ourselves

Is to come to

The following realization:

That love is not a feeling

It’s an act of your will

trestle

The railroad trestle over the creek

is finally coming down

after being abandoned decades ago

It leads nowhere

with a cutoff front and back

Like some behemoth in its death throes

it moans

it creaks

it undulates

it leans

The years have

shifted its spine of metal and wood

into an unsteady unstable and shifting scoliosis

There will be no formal burial

or reconstruction in a museum

after it has been removed

piece by piece

Like all human creations

it was not made to last

forever

Hour 4: Aisle

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today at this aisle

Just one narrow aisle

25 short steps, 25 footfalls

One foot in front of the other

The longest aisle you will ever walk

A pathway of laughter, tears

A journey through years

Together

Good, bad, sickness, health

First steps, last breaths

And all that lies in between

To join

Join, intertwine

Yoke together, tether, bind

This man and this woman

Adam and Eve

Venus and Mars

Opposite attraction

Chemical reaction

Passions burning

From the birth of the flame

To the dying of the embers

The first kiss, the last dance

And everything in between

Dearly beloved we are gathered here today at this aisle

Just one narrow aisle

Holding your Breath

Pocket full of poems

A car ride destination

workshops, hosting or open mic

Birthing your latest creation

To a silent audience

Vows

“Vows”

“We gather here today”

the Poetess Priestess exclaims

to join these souls

a promise, not to be made

lightly

vows spoken ~ spells

till death do us part

Loving, that someone

with every ounce of your heart

the one, who pledges

all of their tomorrows

no matter the circumstances

there to dry, shed tears

sharing in life’s joys

a shoulder to lean on

when life trips you up

choosing each other

each and every day

with unconditional

love and understanding

Now repeat after me

“I do”

Still to the World

Hours combined

Into seconds

Flashes of life

Never lived

Memories made

Memories stolen

Alien and new

I am free

I am caged

I am serene

HEARTFELT ALLIANCE

In

In a grand occasion of time to unite

the two souls united one another with grand scheme

a partnership of love to share one another

into their heart’s with slight angers and disputes

together, they travel with one on their lifetime stride

the harmony and strength build with their love

they ready to face any challenge with their unity

not tortured to one another with words

they are entwined their harts until last breath

seasons may change, but their love blooms with smiles

in their bonded love, there’s no space to others

no one separate their hearts with their liable of names

they are one with their oath until their lovely life

BUT, TODAY THEIR BONDED LOVE FADING WITH DIVORCEE ROLE
