My Introduction

Greetings!

I’ve signed up for the half marathon.Never shared my poetry before, so this will be interesting.

From my profile: I started writing when I was twelve years old on a steel underwood manual typewriter that weight as much as a Cadillac Escalade. Wrote science fiction short stories that were promptly and righteously rejected. Then life hit. Marriages, divorce, careers, whatever. Worked as a bank manager, trade photographer, full-time award winning real estate agent and finally as an Assistant Dean at a university, where I managed the financial department, and taught freshmen classes. From 2000 to 2010 wrote a popular blog filled with mostly humor. After that some of my short fiction was published and recently I published a book of humor. Just finished a 70,000 word crime novel that is making the rounds of literary agencies hoping someone will pick it up.

Poetry? I have always wrote poetry. Always for myself, as a way to connect with the universe and my deeper self. I have hundreds of poems This will be the first time I share my poetry so that will make this marathon more interesting. I wonder if I will be able to write a brand new poem every hour of the marathon. One can’t artificially create a poem out of nothingness. It must have roots in your heart or soul. I can write a short story about anything, but poems….they are different dragons.

I live in a small unknown town in Florida, USA. I am from Miami originally and lived for a time in Boise, Idaho. I am married with a daughter and four cats. I love nature, astronomy, photography coffee shops and coffee. Writing is not an option for me, but an essential component of life.

I wish everyone excitement and luck!

Thank you and may the force be with us.

Hi Y’all!

Hi everyone,

This will be my first time doing any kind of poetry marathon; although I only signed up for the half-marathon because I was nervous. Ha ha!

I am hoping my typewriter poetry / instant poetry background will help with volume (and completing the 12), but I really am going to push craft.

See you around!

~Tina

INTRODUCTION

Hello,

I’m glad to be a part of this. It’s more of a developmental push to be creatively accountable and additionally expressive.

Thanks for having me onboard.

Looking forward to enjoying the ride.

2023 Introduction

Hello to all! My name is Deanna and I live near Calgary, Alberta Canada. This will be my 6th full marathon and it is something I look forward to every year. This year will be a bit of a challenge, though. In the last few years, the Marathon has been right as school gets out here. This year, it is right after school starts. That is always the most exhausting time for me. I work at a preschool/kindergarten for children with special needs. This year, if I am in a preschool class, it means that we will have our first group of children who have been born since the pandemic started. It will be an interesting one!

I have been writing in some way for as long as I can remember. Writing poetry helped get me through those turbulent teenage years. After high school, I joined a band and I was writing lyrics along with being the lead singer. Then I got married and had children. Now that they are grown, I have more time in some ways. With my job, I tend to compose rhyming songs to fit different situations with my kiddos. In saying that, I sometimes struggle during the marathon to be more “adult” instead of drifting towards “Baby Shark” remixes in my head!

When I am not working during the summer break, my husband and I like to travel. Our favourite place is the Normandy area in France. Recently, we went to Tokyo and I have a feeling I am going to be finding a lot of inspiration from that trip. The beauty of the country and the people were amazing!

To prepare for this marathon, I try to go through random prompts and work with them. The day before, I will gather my snacks like fruit, nuts, and other lighter things. I find that that helps a lot and keeps me going. If I try to eat a big meal, it makes me very tired. About hour 18, I will start to wilt. I sit in my chair and set an alarm on my phone so I can rest my eyes.

I look forward to catching up with those I have met in past years and meeting new people!

Good luck to all and see you soon!

Deanna N.

Testing, 1-2-3

Hello! I’m checking to make sure my posts are working as planned. This is my second half-marathon, and I’m looking forward to it. I had so much fun creating poems last year, and I enjoyed reading the other poets’ works as well. Let me know if you see this post!

2023 Introduction

I’m writing this just 2 days after the release of my 3rd poetry collection. And two weeks before my honey goes back to school. That’s kind of an odd feeling – especially because last year was my first time participating in the Official Poetry Marathon and my life was in a totally different place – and it was earlier into the summer. I’m not complaining – I’m just getting the nerves out and letting the differences between preparing for last year and this year feel heard so that I can move on and prepare for another successful year. Since last year, I have participated in an unofficial poetry marathon- successfully all 24 hours, and I have participated in two iterations of the 24 hour novel. And of course I have a new poetry book in the world. That’s really incredible. So I’m not worried about not finishing the marathon the way I was last year – but I do want to see how this goes. Especially because this year I’ll have some friends and family participating with me from my home. And I definitely think that will help me to be even more successful and also more motivated. I write under the name SincerelyBluejay and I’m going to gather my prompts for the marathon throughout the week, I’ll also be preparing food and beverages for our gathering of writing. I’m also going to pick a charity – which since this is happening in September – Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month – it’ll probably be for To Write Love on Her Arms – and use this event to generate some love and donations for them through my social media. Wow, we are so close to the Poetry Marathon, I feel like I had more time to prepare last time – from the time I was accepted and signed up at least. Or maybe that’s all in my head.

Anyway, it’s lovely to be here. I can’t wait to see how this goes, and I can’t wait to read your work! Good luck and happy writing!

Grateful
