Hi everyone!
This is the first time I’m joining the poetry half marathon. I’m really looking forward to writing and reading some poems. If there’s anyone out there who has done it before and has any tips to getting a poem an hour done, I’d love to hear them.
Thank you,
Tammy
My best advice is to not overthink your poem. Write down what comes to mind and then you can tweak it from there.
The prompts are super helpful; if the current prompt isn’t inspiring, you can go back and look at old prompts from past years that might help you.
I don’t know about others but I find that my poems near the end turn out to be some of my favorites even though I think they are awful because my brain is tired.
And, of course, have fun!
Hi Diana,
Thank you! That’s super helpful.
I was thinking my approach would be to think of it as fast drafting a poem, and I could always come back to it later after the marathon for edits.
Tammy
Yes, I think of this as drafting. At first I tried to complete a poem but that just doesn’t work for me. One draft. That’s my goal. And I like to use the prompts then I don’t have to think up a topic!
Awesome! I’ll be sure to check out the prompts.
