Poem 5 Hour 5 Love

Walking through the park with her satchel across her breasts; she stops.

A sunflower touches her nose and she breathes it in and closes her eyes.

Everyday she takes this walk to visit the flowers and clear her head.

Back at home she will add cheddar cheese to her Chilli, fill her wine glass to the brim and watch the oak trees dance in her yard.

Being divorced has been healing.

She is free to do whatever her heart desires.

For now, she just enjoys the space.

And fills herself with love.

  1. I feel your pain and struggle — and appreciate that you put your soul and emotions into poetry (as your bio states – it is how your breathe). But I also love the power of hope, which permeates your writing, as well, and it is clear in both the response to this hour’s prompt and the letter from you grandmother. This one showed a lightness and release in moving forward and standing on one’s own – much like the Oak!

  2. Hello Nykki,
I fear I am too late in my reply as I have been busy receiving and working on poems for the anthology. I hope you were able to make your choice – I do think this poem is worthy of submission!
