The sound of fire soothing the defeated silence of my youth
Whispers from an old friend who was forbidden from the light
Secrets from the basement of another life
Take these flickering memories
Give me room so I can breathe
Burn them out from inside of me
Liberate the thoughts of what used to be
Declutter all the times we no longer need
With this new space we will sow a new seed
There’s something I really like about this poem, it gives a haunting vibe (even without the title!) and feels sort of like it marks a seasonal change and curve in the narrator’s arc. Nice work!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
