No. 24: Note to Self

I entered, I ran, I finished
I pondered, I doodled, I wrote

Out of 24 poems submitted
Maybe two are to my satisfaction

I wrote to complete the race
I didn't compose to complete me

Note to self: practice

  1. Practice helps, for sure, but sometimes even with that, under pressure only so much can be done. Give the other poems time, because you may see them in a few days in a very different light and they will surprise you!

  2. Wise words to every marathoner – and wonderful descriptions of all the ways we make our way through these writing hours! We always leave wanting more – but we can still surprise and delight ourselves with what we produce. I enjoy the directness of this poem – you’ve a lovely poetic voice.
