Ending Vertigo

The call at 2:00am.

“Dad, can you come and get me?

I need to go to the hospital.”

What a way to start my morning.

I spin out of bed slip on my sandals

I stumble to the car.

Things are spinning out of control.
I pick up my son and drive him to the hospital.

Will this night ever end?

Now my mind is swirling?

I search to find the words I let them spin and spin in my mind.

It’s 7 o’clock. How the hours have spun away.

The doctor returns.
“It’s vertigo,” he says.

I drive my son home and—

carefully avoid every roundabout.
