24 Poems ~ 24 Hours
I'm always looking for writing inspiration in everything around me. I may not always be able to unlock it in my brain at the moment, but I've come to appreciate life a little more each day. Kansas is the place I call home (and there's no place like home!). I love to read, go to movies, spend time with my family and friends, and hang out with our dogs.
The first one is big,
each one after easier,
you just need to start.
I want more,
but can’t ever seem to get it.
It sometimes creeps up on me
when I least expect,
one moment doing something,
and the next coming to,
fuzzy mind and thoughts,
wondering what happened,
a little drool on my chin
where my mouth came open
and betrayed me.
I can fall into it quickly,
but it’s also an elusive venture,
making me a walking zombie,
craving rest and coffee.
The journey is always ongoing
as I search how to turn off my brain,
watching endless late-nights shows,
fighting off the urge to mindlessly snack,
and hoping the end of this road
finds me snuggled up comfortably,
steadily breathing,
and finally peacefully dreaming.
She bounces around like a Tigger,
full of energy
and fun doggy vigor.
Her eyes shine with smart laughter
and sweet loving trust
as she brings her favorite toys out to play.
She will do most anything for a treat
or bite of food,
and there are many tricks
in her repertoire;
all she needs is the word,
command her attention,
and she’ll always be your best friend.
Her long fur can be a nuisance
(we can almost make another dog
from what she sheds),
but it’s part of what makes her
the beautiful Aussie that she is;
she’s black and white,
with brown mixed in –
the perfect blending of
a triple threat of colors.
She’s a little wary of people,
but a fierce protector
who barks when she’s bothered,
and knows when she needs to guard.
We couldn’t have chosen
a better furry and loyal companion
to watch over our precious daughter.
Sweetly sing your song,
tug at the strings of my heart,
breathe love with your words.
Subtle breeze whispers,
sunshine promise underneath,
rainbow peeking through.
Wind, faint hint of grass,
soft tinge of impending drops
to wash the air clean.
(I see you, fellow sinus and allergy sufferers! 🙂)
There’s a burning deep inside,
a fire that yearns to be set free,
and one that longs to breathe heat,
light,
and life
into every corner of the world.
The flickering of passion
grows within,
embers igniting new sparks,
inspiration looking for an outlet
to rise upward and flow,
a beautiful smoke
that settles on the wind,
and reaches out to touch
anyone who will breathe,
read,
and listen.
“The truth is out there”,
but the deepest one to find
is within yourself.
Too long I’ve lived
inside the noise,
the words,
the doubts;
I’ve been trampled down,
and made to shrink
beneath the sea of strife.
My soul was lost,
weighted by the expectations
placed upon me,
not just by others
but also by myself,
so all I could see was nothing.
Everything around me was blurred
and erased
by the chaotic flotsam
surrounding my life.
But the time has come
to pierce the shell
and break free of all the fodder.
My vision is clearer
and my heart is calm,
beating stronger than before.
I have punched holes in the cage,
and pieces of light shine on me again.
I can breathe better,
believing that the last few years
can fall away
as I slide out of their grip
like a snake shedding its skin,
revealing a new one underneath;
still tender,
but ready to meet the world
and start really living life again.
Around the corner,
all it takes is the right turn,
and your life can change.
