12 Taking Steps Into the Edda

Hearing I ask from all the tribes, greater and lesser, the offspring of Heimdall; Father of the Slain, you wish me well to declare living beings’ancient stories those I remember from furthest back.

~First line of The Poetic Edd; Seeress’s Prophecy.~

Taking steps into the Edda.

~willjxn

Listen to the Seeress’s words.

Hearing voices from the past.

I ask from her, please tell;

All the stories of  the Tribes,

Every story, be they greater or lesser.

I am the offspring of Heimdall by my Mother.

Tell me how He became, Father of the Slain.

Declare the ancient stories.

That others may someday wish me well in

my own telling of living beings.

If you will remember:

Tell me those from Furthest back.

Prompt 11 The Wedding Day

Spring brought the news of a fall marriage.

A wedding in our backyard.

I gave them my blessing

I gave my dreams the wallet;

At last, my dreams would be realized:

A tall white gothic pergola perhaps

A scaled-down, Multnomah Falls;

With a bridge and a path leading everywhere.

Short columns to mount my bonsai trees on,

Patches of lawn between large beds of flowers.

Flowers that bloom in the fall, of course.

In my dreams, I have already arrived on that perfect wedding day.

Everything is beautiful. Everyone is feeling joy in the day.

But my dreams and my wallet need to have another conversation.

I don’t think my dreams want to know what my wallet has to say.

Prompt 10 Yusuf’s Song

Yusuf, your song, is our song.

Song of a shadowing moon.

Finding we’re all in the darkness.

We all know the same loss.

Eclipsed by the sleepy night.

Walking in the shade of doubt.

Made by our own ignorance

While the divine continues to seek out our face.

and tell us we all need each other.

To tell us we’ll all be alright.

Prompt 9 Firefly Cottage

Firefly, light in a bottle.

See the world zoom in.

Put a mask on every face.

Make porridge,  heat the tea.

I am sinking in too fast

Poetic  Lethargy.

In the treeline of the mind.

Hide some words from me.

Strange as it may seem to you

Stange as it might be.

Sits a Cottage made of rock

Mined— from local scree.

Willjxn

Love starts with one happy face

Then moves on to two the same.

Making three or more.

Thinking Time turns backward.

Our love found this truth.

Kiss me once and kiss me twice and kiss me more again.

Celebrate beginnings.

Play out a heart strung ring.

You are perfect in my book,

Especially with icecream.

My heart takes fight to France and Rome.

You’re beauty in all my dreams.

Your smiles bring me happiness

For one hundred years.

Prompt 7 The Season of The Invisible Dragon

The Season of The Invisible Dragon

~Willjxn

Season of invisibility—

Dragon spirit from the east.

You have put the world in hell.

Hiding, waiting where you feast.

Just when we think that all is well,

Oh, hydra-headed beast.

You flick another with your tail.

Oh, dark maniacal priest.

Prompt 6 Ideal Day

Prompt 6, Hour 6

Misty morning waking

Transcending gardened dawn.

Hill breezes lift to spirit mountain.

Weaving words into a sail.

Rafting on a perfect read.

Down a river, crystal clear.

Blowing me to leeward shores.

Little birds tweet on a limb.

Wisteria petals hang in ringlets.

Noon is shadowed by the clouds.

Sunsets light up every surface

Evening’s stars dance everywhere.

Prompt 5 Dear Mom

Dear Mom,

It has been—

Only last January?

February?

I am glad you are gone.

And, I’m sad, too.

It has been—

A short, long while?

A long, short while?

When we celebrated—

The memories of You.

I am glad you’re gone.

Death ends suffering!

Death— makes suffering?

I am missing you, thou—

Your 95 years are through.

Writing to you to let you know—

I’ll never forget all you’ve done.

Will you remember all we’ve done?

Sincerely and with all my love.

I bid you this adieu.

Your son,

William

Prompt 4 The Cosmic Boat

Boat upon these tranquil waters—

Resting in a pool of stars.

If I dip my fingers over;

Might I tinker with red Mars?

Firmament— divided waters.

Might I travel through the void,

to the other side of heaven?

Seeing God, yet not destroyed.

Are there other boats here ferrying?

Who will join me on my way?

Friends of mystery and wonder;

Float with me in cosmic play.

Prompt 3 Keeping My Word To Myself

Keeping My Word To Myself

~willjxn~

Last night I went to bed undecided.

Thinking of all the words I’ve promised to keep

 work deadlines,

 family expectations,

Morning woke me, thinking about —

keeping my word to myself.

I got up from bed.

 I organized my office.

I watered the flowers in the yard.

I fed the dog and took the trash out.

Do I have time for this?

Poetry is so expensive!

It cost too much in time for just me—

Keeping my word to myself?

 I sit down to start—

My granddaughters come rushing in;

their daddy comes in to visit me

I always keep time for their hearts.

I let them know I love them while—

keeping my word to myself.
