Sevenling
My father was a complex man:
Honourable, wounded, dark of wit & mind
Not always good with children.
These things he also gave into my hand:
Myth & legend, healing, the books I read of every kind,
Family to pass down to children.
I am as contradictory as he was.
Hauntingly and poignant. Can relate, reminds me of my dad a physicist. I loved him, but he was hard to love. Beautifully written.
Thank you. I absolutely understand.
You pay him a compliment in showing this complexity without making him seem only good, only noble, or anything else that we all think is the “should” for a parent or a man.
Sorry. . . pressed too soon. I like how you started with his characteristics alone, showed how he gave three gifts directly to you, and then expanded to additional gift you now give to your children. The steady expansion added to his (and your) complexity.
Thank you!
