“What am I going to do? I was born when the gods had already died.” Pablo Neruda
“What am I going to do? I was born when the gods had already died.”
A time when indifference rode the sky and everyone felt alone.
My ancestral seed was planted in a different world and
I still have those longings. I will find others
and together restring the beads of hope and compassion.
If they are not to be found, I will stay the course –
alone and do no harm til my longest day has turned to night
and still silence is my final resting place.
Wow! I love this poem. Such longing and strength! What a powerful line from Neruda to work with – I love what you did with this and at the last prompt of the half!
This is so beautiful and lyrical…I wanted it to go on. I loved the flow of the poem…There were so many good ideas and lovely lines filled with fantastic imagery…. My favourite visual and sound line was…
“I will find others
and together re-string (sp check) the beads of hope and compassion…” I think I had suggested you submit another poem, but I love this one Carol! Beautiful words and work!
thank you Ingrid! I don’t know what you are referring to …” I think I had suggested you submit another poem, but I love this one Carol! ” where/when did you suggest? I missed that! thanks Carol
I thought I read a few of your poems Carol. Maybe my comment only showed up on one. I am finding that my Internet has been dropping several times over the last few days and because of this, I don’t think that everything is being posted. I know I read a few but I am in love with the imagery in this poem and stringing the beads-well done!
thank you! darn I don’t see your other posts to me, but appreciate you wrote them! Id love to know what else you liked!! The string beads was inspired by a Rumi poem.
You wrote another poem of Grecian mythology/myth, I think? I read several of your poems and liked them all but there were 2 poems that stood out to me and this was one of them. I can read more tomorrow or the next day but, I do think that other poem referred to mythology…
