Now I am friends with a hummingbird
who sits outside my room daily.
I bring feeders of nectar
but the heat is endless.
How can I help him?
Or is it me
who needs help
today,
now?

I really like this one too, the reflectiveness of it and how it speaks of what we need as well as what the natural world need.
This line especially is attention grabbing
“Or is it me
who needs help
today,
now?”
Thank you!
I love this – what you’ve achieved with brevity. Good work!
Thank you!
I agree with the previous comments – brief, but saying so much!!!
Thank you!
You captured so much in these few lines. THere is something delicate in the relationship of you and the hummingbird that represents something so much larger than the two of you. Good poem.
The narrowing of the form works so well here, from the general situation at the opening to the pointedness and urgency of the final question. I really appreciate the framing of the whole thing with “now” and the way the tones of the “now”s contrast!
