Hour 8: A Carol (from Carroll)

A Carol (from Carroll)

If it were up to me, I think that I
Would sit with you by the fire and sing
And spend this life doing nothing but this
Making each day an eternal, melodious song
Always in your presence, always together, for,
To me, you make this world a wonder, just by your
Being here, laughing, embracing, loving, an endless delight

Line: “I sing this song for your delight” from Humpty Dumpty’s Song by Lewis Carroll

  1. This reads to me as either a fun poem or a joyous love poem. I enjoy it on both levels. It is not as different from the writers in general in the marathon as some of your other work.

    1. Paul, you have been so spot on with all your advice! I love this poem, but it isn’t my normal voice. And it echoes love poems in general – and I am not now nor have ever been a love poem writer. I am a lonely old maid, so I really have no business dabbling in the genre. I don’t even know who the speaker is talking to! (I should’ve picked another line from that poem: “I took a corkscrew from the shelf: I went to wake them up myself!”)

I have picked _Pulling Up the Little Trees_ and _hanging the lights_ as the pieces to submit. I think you liked both of those. Thank you for reading and commenting on SO MANY of my poems.
