The Dark Deep Woods
Near a faerie ring of glowing rocks
Gleaming eyes of a woodland fox
Amongst those woods, dark, and deep
I think back to our many walks
My campfire crackles, spitting hot sap
Sticks of wood bundled on my lap
Draped on branches, steaming socks
Deep in the woods, a repeating tap
Between the woods and frozen lake
My white-cold fingers begin to shake
What could it hurt to take a nap
When the sun arrives I shall wake
Inspired by the lines “The woods are lovely, dark and deep,” AND “Between the woods and frozen lake” from the poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost
(Prompt: Read Robert Frost’s poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, chose one line or phrase, and with credit, write a poem with that line or phrase in it.)
I love the sensuality of this poem.
Thank you! I particularly tried to invoke varied senses, so that’s wonderful to hear. I feel I need to change the fourth line, but I’m curious if any lines or phrases didn’t work for you? 🙂
