A Nostalgic Walk Down Memory Lane
It doesn’t take a long time
for new things to age.
Some songs are like that.
But I’m not the kind that
discards songs, because
I do not believe in the death
of what gives life at a point,
even at the birth of new ones.
As a boy, I loved to be sent
on errands at night, because
I’d be permitted to go along
with compound cassette tape,
giving light to torch my way
through darkness and lonely paths.
But I wouldn’t put on the light
to save enough battery
to jam my grief with old reggaes.
I’d jump and jump and jump
so much that sometimes,
I don’t feel like going back home.
Honestly, this was one of the best poems I’ve read thus far in my commenting. Very professional, very literary. Always my favorite types.
“I do not believe in the death of what gives life.” THIS LINE. WOW!
I also really love these: “giving light to torch my way through darkness and lonely paths” and “I’d jump and jump and jump so much that sometimes, I do not feel like going back home.” What a powerful way to end a poem. Wow. Love it!
Fantastic job! Blessings to you always! 😊
Thank you, Katelyn. I am very happy to know you love this poem. If I had intention to stop writing, I won’t stop anymore for the sake of your comment.
There are great lines in this but what I love most is the sense of nostalgic melancholy….nicely done. I felt that.
Thank you, Dovita. I’m most grateful
