In my Dreams I Soar-
Phoenix-like I rise above,
buildings reaching toward,
Sky dotted with clouds.
Delicate wings flap-
Lifting—Propelling—Soaring
through space.
Dreamy clouds dance
with me as I,
Breathe freely—
for the first time!
Clouds gently pass,
Space clears—
Openness appears!
I am Born Again
in this space
of Being!
Once cushioned by Clouds,
My Vision now cleared-
I stop—pause—inhale and,
Breathe that Breath,
long overdue!
Filled with Breath and Knowing,
I fly back down into
that clouded space
Holding onto —
Memories.
Ingrid Exner, 2021 Half Marathon
Stunning, Ingrid! Exudes such happiness and fulfillment! Love it!
Thanks Siobhan! I was writing a bit quicker this time and taking more breaks for the eyes.
Ah, to be reborn and to have a second chance. Who doesn’t want that? Beautiful!
Thank you so much! I am still waking up as I navigate through this half marathon. Thank you for commenting and so early too!
Wonderful!
Thanks Caitlin!
Love this, Ingrid! I’m in the moment as I read it.
Thanks Tracy! This is in the running for me…
Beautiful! Definitely a choice for the anthology.
Thank you so much!!! I am torn between 3 poems but thankfully, I have a good week to make the decision. I just had a look at your Nonnet-fabulous!
This sounds amazing Ingrid great choice of vocabulary and suspense the poem grabs you from the beginning to the end well penned
Thanks Sabinah! I am leaning toward submitting this one.
I love the imagery, and the urban/outdoor freedom sense of breaking free. Nice piece.
Thanks Mark! This was another poem that when writing, I didn’t knw exactly where it was going but, it sort of wrote itself into being. I’ve read it aloud a couple of times, and I am beginning to like it even more. It is a toss up between submitting this one, the penny idiom one or the haiku on aging… Maybe I will flip a coin…
I love this line
“Filling with Breath and
knowing, I fly back into
the clouded space-
holding onto
Memories.”
The whole poem is very meaningful and freeing!
Thanks Susan! I think that I am submitting this poem along with the penny poem. I think they balance each other well. And, the freedom and especially breath work that I express in, In My Dreams is very important now and post COVID.
I really liked this. Lots of great visuals
Thanks Cindy! I didn’t know where I was going with this one but as a yoga teacher, I speak about breath often and this year, the ability and preciousness of our breath was emphasized and it came outin this poem…clear thought and clear breath…
Well traversed!! Hold on to memories…
Thanks Rajani!
