When I was young,
I sang of dancing with
moon shadows and,
I did.
Through operations,
I danced and sang to the Lyrics
of Optimism, Resiliency and,
Bouncing Back.
As I grew older, I began to forget
the Meaning behind the Lyrics-
the Message behind the Song.
When greater shadows returned.
The song was sung to me-
And, I remembered who I was and,
Who I AM-
Resilient!
Poem 10 by Ingrid Exner. Half Marathon, 2020
This is fantastic … liked the way you brought up the end
Thank you Varenyas! Hearing this CAt Stevens song again brought back some wonderful camping memories from childhood and even working as a camp counsellor in my teens. Its funny how we sing the songs in our childhood/teens seeing it one way and then realizing te rue mastery of the song in our adulthood and middle age.
Absolutely – and that is who you truly are – resilient. Thanks Ingrid :).
Thanks Vijaya! This song and prompt brought back a lot of fun memories and it was a joy to write this!
I love how this poem spans an entire lifetime. The end and the beginning join up with almost forgetting what brought you joy in the middle. Well done!
Thanks Danielle! This was a treat to write!
Such a positive testament to your incredible strength! Wonderful!
Thank you Siobhan!
LOVE this poem and its raw truth. <3
Thanks Meredith! I still don’t know whether I will choose to submit this one or The Season of The Birds. I am submitting a short one…probably My Recipe: Jumping For Joy (as it is short) and then a longer poem.
Resilience and hope – I also love how you pulled this theme from the song. Thank you!
Thank you for this beautiful comment Christy!
In this poem, this dance, there is a celebration of sublime faith. And again, hope!
Pretty!
Thank you Ofuma! I really enjoyed this prompt. This is one of my favourite songs-ever.
