Don’t go towards the light
It leads off the bridge
and into colder seas beneath
Instead dance between
The glow of each light
Along a lit path that gleams
While shadow fights shade
You’ll make it
to the other side
Where my arms are waiting
To keep you above the tides.
The first two lines of this poem are the most striking for me. You’ve really managed to turn that motif on its head.
The rest of the poem brings to mind bits of Bukowski’s ‘The Laughing Heart’, especially
‘instead dance between
the glow of each light’
Excellent work.
