Morning (from this side) all:
I’ve run some marathons with my legs, and some (albeit non-poetic) with my pen but this will be my first poetry-driven marathon.
Any pointers?
See you all on the hot seat.

I am likewise a once-upon-a-time marathoner, and this experience is indeed similar! It is aptly named. I only do the half – I am long past the ambition to stay up all night – but would just recommend you get to the computer each hour. Set an alarm to remind you. Too many times, I got wrapped up in some household chore and came in just under the wire. You will also hit a wall. Just like in running. And you will need to push yourself through it. It will feel like you are writing complete and utter crap. It’s okay! When you go back and look at it later, you will see that it is actually pretty good crap. And finally, you will feel both exhilarated and let down when it is over. Not many (or no one) near you will fully understand what you have achieved, so do something to reward yourself. I enjoy responding to other poems both during and after the event. It’s like how runners encourage one another and then share in the victory of completion. I hope it goes well for you!
you are 100% correct here. I love the tension you built in this description. I assume we are all rather, excited in our own ways, yet also, I sense a collective trepidation boiling on on the edge of a starting pistol fire. It’s certainly great to find a writing community to work with. I’m really looking forward to reading and writing with everyone!
“Set an alarm to remind you.” Thanks. It works.
