Introduction – The Morning Reads

Hello all,

My name is Surya T and I am a writer/poet. I have been writing for nearly 7 years as of 2021. Over this time, I have finished a few books (which are underway to be published), poems (published on my blog – morningreads.wordpress.com), and some short stories on topics I found interesting.

I have come across the poetry marathon and it is a challenge that I was immediately drawn to. I decided that I will do this, no matter what. This is my first time doing a marathon as of this so there are a lot of questions in my own head as to what I will be doing. However, I think with all your support and a little confidence in myself, I will be able to finish this.

I have a good amount of coffee, so that I can stay awake. I’m sleeping till a half-hour before the marathon starts to ensure I am not half-sleepy when it starts. It is going to be a long night and I got myself bread and cheese to keep me fed for the next 24 hours.

Good luck to all and myself!

Regards,

Surya T

Summer tree

Isn’t this what we want?
To make this our island
So we could take the cool breeze of the sea
The shape of your lips
Is wetter than the ocean
The glitters in your eyes
Gives me terrible sanity
Between the brawling wind
We are sheltered in the shield
Under the love summer tree
Your melodious voice keeps
The shady tree shield cooler

I Am Me

Hello. I’m Martin. I’ve been writing poetry, among other things, since I was 12. I see this marathon not just as a test, but  chance to connect and grow. Let us grow together my fellow poets.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Wow today with great delight

Take this day ;special to appreciate

Our great men in our cherished

country to appreciate our fathers

You’ve been there for me

In sorrow a strong wall,a prop for me

In happiness we cerebrate together

When we’re apart  our hearts together

Your earning to school you sent

Not in vain; we work hard to make it

Dad always diligent with a tool kit

Working  for us to make it

Your sacrifices gives me hope

For a better  future I hope for

Selfless ;we to have better future

Than his always shaping our future

Time to cerebrate you as a son

You give a great advice to a son

To be a man of integrated intellect

Who through him the world’ll be impacted

New Shoes

It has been a long, long time since I have done writing or delved into reading poetry or books or have done writing exercises. Many years ago, when the future looked super shiny and exiting and I had a head and heart full of dreams and hopes, I was writing almost daily, filling books with all the words that were overflowing from inside me.

I loved writing and I loved being part of writing groups. I then joined the military, in which I stayed for almost 5 years. A year and a half ago I discharged and started the slow process to reintegrating myself into ‘normal’ society. From childhood emotional and mental abuse as well as excessive bullying and harassment and overwork in the military, I was a different person to whom I was around 7 years ago – more than a little broken and damaged. There is a lot less inside me and a lot more numbness and emptiness that doesn’t always offer creativity in the form or writing or sketching.

But I am slowly finding new ways to find inspiration from my journey and from memories. I look forward to meeting new people and becoming part of this new world. Can’t wait to read other people’s work and learn as I go, basking in a new reality filled with artwork made out of words.

I’m currently living in Australia and have moved around a fair bit over the last 10-14 years. I have three adorable cats and spend most of my time studying and trying to learn new skills as well as manage housekeeping and life as much as I can with my constant companions of depression and anxiety.

My main inspirations are nature and wildlife. I love a large variety of poetic works, including Neruda, Lord Byron, Cummings, and more recent, R.M. Drake and Charlie Mackesy. Other names and poems elude me now, as any thought is want to do when I try to grasp it.

Just a few hours to go to my first marathon and I’m both daunted and excited!

p.s. I honestly hope I posted this in the right area for introductions!

Hello Fellow Poet Marathoners!

So motivating reading all your introductions. I’m excited to get started tomorrow so early in the morning! I’ve never done anything like this before. In fact, I’ve never attended any sort of marathon! Perhaps a series-watching marathon is as close as I got. Haha. I’m glad that I discovered poetry so long ago and I’m so glad that I discovered this poetry marathon to get me out of my funk and giving me an opportunity to create some poetry and to get a chapbook out there once and for all. What a great self-care go-to poetry is, to be honest. Good luck everyone!
