#24 La Fin

Now that this is over

Now that I am done

There are no more excuses

The Marathon I’ve run

Time to stop the snacking

Eating junky foods

My body feels the sugar

And says that it’s no good

There’s still a piece of candy

And several ice cream pops

Some crunchy chips and salsa

Caffeine so I won’t stop

I left alone the Cabernet

Didn’t have a drink

I knew the danger it could cause

Making me not think

It’s time to put away this task

Return to life that’s here

This evening I will eat some kale

And certainly have a beer

Thank you all for listening

I wish you love and peace

Let’s keep the good vibes going

Pray all the pain will cease

Prompt #24: God’s Blessings

I have been walking a journey.
A journey that I am grateful to walk.
There are days when the mud is deep and struggle to keep lifting my feet,
Other days the mountains get steeper,
With every lonely morning,
But I know that God is bringing me better days.
He has given me hope for marriage and a family.
A man who is ready, willing, and able to love me as I should be loved.
A child we will both feel blessed to have.
A child of impact with parents of action.
These blessings these are the gifts that I journey for in a time lacking of hope and light.

Gift of Life

my mom-mom has a gift waiting for me
of a Christmas cactus
her daughter told her
about my growing plant collection
so she took a cutting
from her own mother plant
to give to me
when next we meet
I cannot go to get it
while the virus rages on
one little piece of cactus
isn’t worth the risk
she has survived
past childhood (several siblings didn’t)
through cancer and the toxic treatment
I would give all my leafy children
plus some hundred more
so that this, too,
she strides past
to give her gifts herself

Just a hug…

Someone in the chat said
I wish I could cuddle someone
Every person living alone
On the other side of the keyboard
Felt a hard jerk on their heartstrings
Trying to remember the last time they were touched
By affection
I replied, “At this point I’d settle for just a damn hug.”

Prompt 24: Giving Away

If I could pack up my insecurities
and let them sit in a warehouse,
I would.
It would be the gift that, having it taken from me,
would certainly make me more productive.

Money might not make you happier, but knowing
you have the right to social interaction without dread
is priceless.
I once wondered what it would be like to have the ability
to see myself as others see me.
It wouldn’t have made Margo Channing happy,
and I know I wouldn’t like to hear it, either.

I don’t want to wish for a wire to know what
my friends think of me.
I want to know I’m the best person I can be, and accept
my flaws and not be concerned with whether others do or not.

How much longer through this life do I have to
carry this invisible weight that serves no purpose
but to remind me I’m not living in the moment?

I could be happier. I want to be happier.
The face I see in the mirror looks tired
of holding in her breath.

Beatrix’s Rocks

“Look at this!”

She said grabbing a rock out of the riverbed.

My mouth drops open/

I sing its praises.

She finds another one.

And another.

One black.

One red.

One smooth.

Each rock is special,

Each rock must be worshipped and acknowledged.

She gathers six or seven,

Her eyes darting underfoot,

Red hair flying high.

“Here, momma, for you!”

“For me?” I exclaim.

I shower her with gratitude,

And hold the rock to my breast.

She says, here,

Unloading a small pile of rocks into both my hands.

“Do I have to take them all home?” I ask.

“Yes,” she states matter of factly.

I pour rocks in my pocket and we walk on.

At home, we will marvel over the miracle of rocks.

Prompt 24, Hour 24

A Piece of Paper

When we were poor

you gave me a piece of paper

when banks still issued them

and used what little savings you had

to give me the only thing I was lacking

For you had already given me everything else

That I had ever wanted.

I didn’t need that

piece of paper

to feel your love

But accept this one

To feel mine
