Hour eleven

Extraordinary

This spoon was once bent by Uri Geller,
Took tea at Buckingham Palace,
And was smuggled into space,
This spoon is no ordinary spoon.

This spoon has shared ice cream
With Hollywood startlets,
Dined in soup at The Ritz,
This spoon is no ordinary spoon.

This spoon has climbed Everest,
And been to the poles,
Packed carefully in cases and bags,
This spoon is no ordinary spoon.

This spoon is a silver spoon,
Laying in my kitchen drawer,
Dreaming of exploits and fame,
It is no ordinary spoon.

PUTIN – #9

It’s said his lips are stained

With beet juice he drinks every morning

So smart in his jacket and tie

The heartthrob of his own imagination

In the heart and heads

Of so many lies a tremor

Fear of his selfish devastation

Turn on the lightbulb

Focus

It’s actually blood

wakeup6pm

How did this happen?
One moment I was fine
the next? SPLAT
on the ground
Bike twisted and broken
next to me.

the roads were fine
I didn’t see any ice
if i had- I wouldn’t have ridden my
bike.

Me with blood on my pants
an aching head and a broken
rear end-
at least, it feels like that

So cold, so very cold
I can’t tell if I’m shaking because
of the cold weather, or because of the
fact that I almost died

I can’t get that picture out of my mind
It plays like a home movie in my head
repeatedly telling me-
you could have died
actually you should’ve died

by all things, I shouldn’t be
here right now
it kind of puts things into
perspective ya know?

How I’ve been living my life
what I’ve been doing with it
How I’ve treated other people and
even been treated by them

I didn’t exactly have a
come to Jesus moment,
where Jesus appeared
to carry me home-
Not sure I would have wanted to

But it did scare the hell
out of me enough that I sat there
waiting for the ambulance and got right
with him right then and there

I promised him that I would do better
If he spared me.
He did and now it’s my turn to keep my
promise and do better.

I guess you could say that was my
wake up call

Hour 11 text prompt -Ordinary Rock

“Extraordinary in Ordinary”- pick an ordinary object and make it extraordinary. You can do it by giving it some special attributes or a different background and story.

I… Am a fan of rocks.

Most every kind has something unique about it

Take a river stone, rounded by time

Perfect for skipping

But also absorbent to an extent

And lighter upon drying out

And this one while ordinary,

Sedimentary in appearance

When given a little love

And a lot of power

Can hold the soul

Of a demon lord

Transforming it from ordinary

Without changing its appearance

Fouling the river without alerting the heroes

To our evil plot.

Plus-side? It’s super satisfying

To fling a demon

1…2…3…4 skips across the water

And it can’t even retaliate

HOUR 11: THE TABLE SAW

In 1947 Leo returned from The War
Purchased a table saw and joiner
Welded a steel stand to support them

He married made the first television
In Denver built his house board by board
That table saw grinding blade after blade

Chewed and chewed upon pine oak cedar ply
Repaired televisions for forty years
Colorblind though he was

Built his daughter’s walnut wedding dais
Solid as rock beautiful as daisies
By then the table saw forty years old

When I received the machine
It was over sixty has gone another fifteen
Leo watching me half those years

Tables cabinets ukuleles chessboards
And on the side of the steel stand
A storage bin holds literally

Every weary blade that saw spit out
For the life of me I cannot
Bear to part with even one of them

All is Forgiven

As the fog

rolls in

It will cover

a multitude of sins

Don’t judge me

For you, too

Have blood

on your hands

From this night’s mistake

Echocardiogram (prompt 11)

it isn’t just an organ he says
look closely and you will see
since the very beginning
your best friend

has been beating inside of you

it isn’t just an organ
look closely and you will see
each chamber working in perfect harmony
graceful and intricate

an elegant dance that carries on

it isn’t just an organ
look closely and you will see
a testament to your resilience and vitality
your capacity for compassion

not just for you but for everyone that you love

it isn’t just an organ
look closely and you will see
in spite of stress and sickness
in spite of grief and failed relationships

you are still alive because

it isn’t just an organ
look closely and you will see
this muscle is responsible for every laugh and every tear
every moment of joy and sorrow you’ve experienced

it isn’t just an organ
look closely and you will see
it is a miracle

Possibility

Walking through a portal

Into another world,

Into another realm

A different time

A time where humanity thrives

I’d love to see

what lies on the other side

Of this beautiful portal

That promises a fresh start

Growth, change

And perhaps for humanity…

…A new heart , a new start

Beauty in Normal

Spirit left

ghost trapped in stone

mirrors lifted

windows open

All that is left is a memory

Broken glasses yet to be fixed

A new book left unread

Every day is fleeting
