Voyeur

Purpose lost it’s meaning
Somewhere along the way
Lip tremble, tighten
Unable words to say

Every message sent
Meant only for your eyes
Beneath world microscope
Now jealous within lie

Make it known my key
Is tucked within your hand
The lock which they have frozen
Undone, I live again

Let them play the voyeur
Seeing that unheard
As I draw you closer
Breathe on every word

Distant future

Truth is consuming the lies of the present once unconditional vows of corruption are a thing of the past democracy means something

Poem 25- My Second Marathon

As the birds wake up outside,

And the darkness begins to hide,

I to myself begin to chide.

“Why would you do this?

At least you have not died.”

Despite a setback here and there,

Despite prompts that felt unfair,

I made it through, I proved I care.

I did not fall into despair.

With faith from friends

the effort finally ends

And my next action truly depends

On solely me and the promises I keep.

Dawn awakens while I sleep

Is it okay for me to weep?

Until next year, new friends and old

Until the call back to the poetry fold.

(#14/24): “Apocalypse”

“Bank manager suspected of peculating”,

Screamed the evening tabloid

Which I glimpsed through the steam in the sauna.

I had my raincoat on when I left,

Which shielded me when frogs began raining down,

On the children in the playground.

In the mayhem, an elbow caught my side,

Scattering the jars of jam,

And bags of fresh tomatoes I had bought.

It was a mystery that was never solved.

(#13/24): “Rejection”

There once was a man from Richmond.

Who thought he was God’s gift to women.

His dressing was risible.

His pick-up lines farcical.

So his chances were none in a million.

Poem 21

Cream and black star bag: check

She handed it to me and then just left

A sweet sister who knows the freedom of living

Very easy to not take into account how full every moment is
While also taking into account how little you need to do

Wait upon the Lord and He will renew Your strength

Is not a handicapping

It is a call to patience

Something in the western world of instant gratification

Is mind boggling

We do everything faster as an improvement

Faster does not always equate an improvement

Brevity does, perhaps the timing of a moment

But the moment in the timing deserves to be still

Peace – I use this cream and black star bag now for everything

(#12/24): “Mortality”

It begins with a nagging cough that comes to stay.

A general malaise that never goes away.

Then a conspicuous spot on the film.

“Nearly missed it,” he jokes.

As if to comfort.

But, I know.

And even as I leave his office,

Days before I return to confirm the inevitable,

Instinctively, I begin to plan.

Time to get my affairs in order.

Time to set matters straight.

Time to clear the air with you.

A life lived without purpose,

Is now centred around just one.

A life lived without care,

Now must have every moment count.

A life lived without responsibility,

Must now assess every next step.

Our sun dies in five billion years,

Our earth uninhabitable in just a billion.

My time here concludes far sooner,

Measured in mere months.

Twilight’s last gleaming beckons,

As I stumble towards inevitability.

HOUR22

Hope

My life was black and white

until now; when will I have colour

in my life? Maybe my next love will

bring some colour into my grey life!

Time to say goodbye

This day will be the hardest

I have been dreading it

But here we are

It is time to bury the dead

It is time to let go

It is time to move on

It is time to turn to each other

Those who are still living

To raise a glass

To make a toast

To swear we will always remember

To promise to keep in touch

And unlike at other gatherings

Here I actually believe in these oaths

We have kept them for so long

We will keep them

Until we are the ones being buried

Our friends standing above us

Gently laying the dirt over our faces

And whispering that they will find us

On the other side of the veil

And once again

In this instance

I do believe them

There are some people

That never leave your life

No matter how much or little

You keep in touch

They are always at your shoulder

Whispering in your ear

Giving you the hug you wish you had

And reminding you how far you’be gone

Like a mental hitchhiker

They planted themselves here long ago

They have been here so long

You don’t know how to be without them

Even when their bodies give up to the grave

Their ghost still lingers

Saying what you need to hear

Making you smile from the beyond

And reminding you

That some friendships

Never really leave you

We say goodbye for now

But they will forever live

In our hearts and minds
