(#1/24): “Revelation”

Today, I read

Of bodies long fallen

Into icy graves.

Undisturbed for decades,

Unseen until now.

Yet another by-effect

Of global warming

Lays bare the consequence

Of our ambition,

And folly.

The dire onslaught

Of climate change

Imperils our finite earth,

Opening it

To the inevitability of destruction.

And yet, it brings closure.

To families and descendants

Of the lost and perished.

Their cold fate finally known.

Markers to their resting place.

To the intrepid deceased,

And our dying world,

I can only say

May you, and we,

All rest in peace.

What You Are

YOU WILL BE WHAT I AM

Someone read this to us in Latin
at writers group tonight, translating
as the living do for the dead, as she
does for her lover who no longer speaks,
who lives in a memory care unit down
the street, who once danced and laughed
with their little dog. And tonight I get up
and do what must be done, disassemble
the books and bookcase, get the giant
photo of Willa Cather ready to pry loose
from the wall. I do this because we, all of
us, must be free to go where we go, in our
minds or on our feet, our little feet, no one
would believe could climb such mountains!

Hour 24, view outside my window

Awakenings

The rising sun in El Paso
cannot be seen because
of the mountains, an
exercise in anticipation,
the morning light blocked
from view except as a
lightening border along
the peaks’ edges, a blue
streak that pales further
with each passing minute.

At last the sun bursts
over their angles and edges,
illuminating in vibrant streaks
of gold, rose, and purple.

I begin to see clearer details
in the toys abandoned the
previous night, lawn furniture,
and delineating rock walls,
as my small world awakens
once again.

My Kitchen Window

Pre-dawn darkness
lights my mind with
the view through my kitchen window.

The seasonal creek
white-capped for weeks
last winter, after the rains charged
our parched patch of earth.

Cooper’s hawk shrieks betwixt
oak branches.
schooling her
fledglings of the hunt

An owl, white,
“who” speaks each night
of mice and rabbits.

Precocious woodpeckers
perforate my wood siding
hiding ranched worms
In carefully examined acorns

And the birds of all colors that flock
to eat green toyon berries
leave plenty for me for
jam next Christmas.

Dawn, before the dogs awake,
timid deer investigate
my Machu Picchu,

while squirrels emerge from
dry rotting logs –
enough to burn fifty winters.

23 FREEDOM!

From hereon I will love myself more

will respect my own persona,

will appreciate my struggles and come out victorious

will make my world a very wholesome place to be in,

will keep all my friends and family alike nearer,

nearest to my heart as they’re the witness

to the travails and hardships

I’ve been thru these past days (thank you)

Let it be known that I chose to face irritants in the future

head on, heads up, and a stronger heart and mind

to boot,

With the love and guidance of our Omnipotent One.

Yes!

24. The View from my Window

The birds have gone to sleep
There is no moon to behold
I hear a distant sound of a dog barking
And the sudden rush of a car passing by
In case you’re wondering where I’m at
In Malaysia my lovelies where dusk has arrived
And midnight beckons
Adieu to you and you till next year we meet again
Thank you to you and you
May the day be filled with good cheer
And the bed filled with awesome dreams
Thank you and Good night!

Give me the Beat

Set the metronome

Give us the beat

Let my heart beat in time with it

Let my body breathe with it

Let us fall in time with each other

We shall march it

We shall dance it

Our feet moving across the ground

In old and mystic patterns

Our hands lifted

Like worshipers in a pentacostal church

Partaking in the most holy of communion

We dance

We sing

We march

We join hands

We are sanctified in the sound

We are washed in the rhythm

We are whole in each other

For this one beautiful shining moment

We are at one with the music

And we are free

Prompt #24 (The World outside my window j.r.m©)

Sunset hues
creeping up
to palette the
evening sky.
The Sun
descends in
the distance.

A pandemonium
of parrots
perched high
among the
branches of
the almond tree
are camouflaged
with the
color of leaves.
The sun sets:
it’s time

for them
to fly back
to their nests.

While the branches
of the palm tree
are almost
knocking for
permission to
come in
from the window,

they sway
in the gentle
caress of the
wind’s tickle.

Reflections

Mother/Daughter Reflections

I stare at myself in the glare

Of the mirror

And wonder what became of

My youth, my beauty.

I see the same eyes, my mouth,

The furrow I make with my brows

When I think,

And realize those have not aged.

I turn, and look at the beauty

I have created who smiles back at me,

And wonder at what I have created

Her youth, her beauty

With my eyes the same green,

A different mouth,

Love and kindness radiating from within.

Her feet do not stay in one place,

Her wanderlust hungry for knowledge

Of other people, places, cultures.

Her freedom to explore this Earth fascinates me

As she brings the world home to me

With her vivid descriptions, her passion.

At first glance,

I am not my mother’s daughter.

But get a little closer and

you’ll see I have her eyes,

her hands,

her hair in the favoring lighting.

When I look at the woman from whom these traits have been shared,

I see myself too.

I wonder what she thinks of me,

With my features from her and

My free heart as well.

She will tell you she isn’t as free

But I disagree.

Her freedom is in her words,

Her affections,

Her food.

The expressions on her face pay her no justice

For all the freedom

She has given in her sacrifices.

Prompt 24

Window wide open
It’s still dark outside
Wee hours of morning
Let’s go outside and walk
step into the present moment
inaugural view of
The Marathon finishing morning
This is the best views in town,
understand that all things change
impermanence lasts
Hence calling it a night
Until next year !
