Poem 10: Black Animals

My favorite animals are the black ones:
Sleek.
Light gleams off muscles and rolls
like someone smeared their
precious hides with Vaseline.
Fur so shiny we can see into the
smarmy depths of our own prejudices.
An honest, onyx mirror,
curving like the darkest sky
from which the moon bites
crescent chunks.

The black ones know us,
see our rejection of our own
dark spots.
Still, they rub against us,
leaving tinsel-dark threads
that stitch together our
philosophical treastises and
ethnocentrism.

When the sooty skies singe the heavens
and the stars have closed their winking eyes,
they watch us,
our shadows on lightless nights.
They see what we do,
smell what we know.
And when the sun finally rises,
they remain there, at our feet,
black pupils promising
forgiveness.

9 IT’S BEEN A WHILE

To breathe

The taste of freedom

from the tentacles that gnawing at the dilapidated heart

To arrest

the tear duct dam

that’s spewing, albeit, sporadic tears of sadness

To rejoice

the abrupt stoppage of a dream

that turned out into a continuous nightmare

To reminisce

if the emotional involvement is still there

together with the continuous trouncing

To be liberated

a breathing spree, free at last

no unnecessary force at the tearducts

nightmares no more, with plenty of Care Bear dreams

And most of all, bereft of the emotional chains

It’s about time…

Happiness trekking in…

Yeah, it’s really been a while

Since this feeling of goodness,

oneness in spirit, at tranquility

10~17

SO Hot Outside!

I gently touch

The blues and reds.

Beautiful

Swirl of purple.

Surrounded by a sea

Of peachy~pink.

Do I feel yellow creeping in?

Perhaps I see some green?

Not yet time

For skin to show.

Put on my turtleneck

Good to Go.

I hate yellow.

Hour 10.

grey
monotone static of thought
one policy
one opinion
diversity lies
beyond this
never-ending feed
of force fed
sludge
red
like the wine
that trickles from
the lips
like blood
spurred by intellectual poison
white
cleansing the
dirty hands of
masses away
wiping minds
of pain
of contempt

From Here to There

Ears burn inside.
Trying to heal.
My head frets,
Like a dry guitar,
“What’s it like getting old?”

Fat puddles in the mirror.
Ugly? I don’t know.
Pretty is as
pretty rare, really.

There it is.
90 seconds closer.
I never knew my clock
could do that.

Phone clock.
Phone game.
Phone everything.

The phone, the phone, the phone.

Bill.

“Tired of the big bill?”
They ask.
“Tired of all your bullshit!”

Tired of the fight.
It’s a tired fight.
Fight or flight?

Tired of them!

Them, them, them!
(Crazy ass brazen liars!) THEM!
Fear them! No, THEM!
What might they do next?

Tired of my rubber neck
sprained to the latterly
hateful view.

Why should I care?
The skies are blue.
and the tree in the distance

Waves.

A pine trie,
Elfin hands,
Seeing me.

“Hellow,” says he.

“Hello. I see you;
Yes, I’m blest to see you,”
I smile.

“Say hello to the one below.”

White Goddess’
petals whisper a
gambol on the breeze.

“Halloq!”

“Hellow, if you please.”

“Ah, whee! White butterfly,
All flaw away
When she spake.”

She spoke.

Here Goes

One of four small prints
in which a large, mouse-gray circle
floats up towards the top edge.
Like a raggedly clipped head of hair
the brushstrokes overlap
in every direction.
The ether in which it floats
is pink with orange and violet-gray
casts. There is a softly-textured
irregularity to the whole thing.

I was testing a new technique.
It was only a test.
It’s nothing, really.
It’s everything, maybe.

Hour Ten

Write a poem where color plays an important role. How you choose to interpret that role is up to you.

Red

By Patricia Harris

Sunset crimson,

Closing the dark eyes

At the end of life.

Seeping,  weeping

Lines too true,

Spreading out,

Staining the floor

A darker than red,

So much darker it’s dead.

Sorrow weeping,

Forgotten shades.

Anger seeping out

Coloring the rest

Shades of only red.

Red

The color of love

Shows it’s another side

Which is a means of survival for many

The  one who gets paid,

For also the one who gets laid.

They all are working in red light area,

And by any chance,

Shouldn’t be judged

For, every man she entertains

Is her God.

As the money he pays

Is used to buy bread for

Her 5 year old

To pay the rent of the house

And the school fees.

If you think your soul

Is any higher than hers,

Last time I checked

she wasn’t  the one,

Judging around.

Hour 10 – Prompt 10 – When color mattered

Two children, neighbours,
went to the same school
and had the same set of friends

Over time, one child withdrew into himself
Quiet, shy, reserved, eyes downcast
His parents struggled to understand this change

Till one day, they realized the cause
The children and a few elders teased
their son regularly and called him “Dark”

They wounded the innocent mind with harsh words
They isolated him from activities
They bruised the tender mind repeatedly

When did the color of skin start to matter?
When the color of blood in our veins is the same
When we all fade into ashes, after our last breath

When the Sun, Earth, Wind, Rain don’t discriminate
Why does man then get tangled in the maze of colours?
Isn’t life about living, our actions, beyond the color of skin?
