Someone called it “Shrek green”
and from behind my laughter, I wondered
if the rest of the world sees my painted nails
as more juvenile
than serene.
When my eyes scanned the shelves, this color had drawn me in,
reminding me of the jade bangle
encircling my friend’s wrist
to ward off bad luck during the year of her zodiac,
and the folk stories about this hue of green
promising health and fortune
before the cross and crucifix colonized
our traditions.
Tomorrow, I will fix
my chipped nails
with the naïve hope that the color
will help me to reclaim
my ancestors.
The mistress of the web
tiptoes on her delicate, lethal art,
like a maestro on violin,
ready to do her part.
The young moth likes the quiet glint,
as his curiosity takes over.
He is tangled, afraid, the fangs sink
and soon devoured by her.
Here I am.
Inside this bubble
Experiencing life.
I can feel
If I want to feel.
I can heal
If I want to heal
This tiny bubble.
Well, large,
By some distortion
Of Beauty.
This tiny bubble
Is mine.
All mine.
How ‘bout dat?
There were hedgehogs
(Imagine hedgehogs)
There were nuns
(imagine nuns)
On the same woodland path
(One after the other)
Her skin is a jungle of deepest green,
scared by rivers sweet and clean
oceans of the deepest blue,
mountain ranges, sharp and grey
capped with fresh falling snow
pure white crystals a blanket of cold
she is layered in the hues of calm,
browns to red warmed by the sun,
golden dirt to feed her heart.
When she is treated well she grows a
rainbow of wild flowers to feed the life
that make her a home .

The brown of my eyes
Showing deep compromise
Indigo, is the shade of the day
The color of voice
And work
Yet, I am in word play
Not hard to keep my spirits up
Beneath this clouded sky
With out that endless blue
And sun to get me by
Burning from within
Thought I’d take a swim
In cool blue waters
A change of scene
A feather brings
Black and blue
I’ll push through
My words, bring reckoning.
Striped shirt
Polka dot pant
Would you be intrested in
Listening to my rant?
French fries
Garlic dip
Lets talk
I love to gossip
Faded jeans
Old shoes
Thanks to my pizza love
I got a lot of weight to lose
Pink tiles
White edges
I hate heels
But love wedges?
Dogs bark
While birds sing
Gonna stop this
Since it got boring.
And my heart skips a beat
My knees feel like collapsing
My head is spinning like a carousel
My mouth is dry and wide open
I’m floating off the ground
I replay it in my head
No, he said what I heard
And my eyes get teary
The corners of my mouth are pinching
My cheeks are hot, no, on fire
So I run to the lake
And I am fully immersed
I surface refreshed
And there are people dancing and singing
A rainbow sits in the sky
I walk in the moss with bare feet
And the sun kisses my face
One blink. I’m back.
“I Love You Too”
The spider blocks the way
out of the shower,
holding the curtains corner with
Seven of eight,
with the last we waves me out,
“you may pass,
none of us mean harm here.”
