Too Old for These

too old for verse,

too old for love,

too old for dreams,

too old for drama.

at twenty-four I met

a poet, published, older,

now an ash inside a tomb.

shared his verse in class,

gathered his disciples in the Irish bar

with beer, we paid attention, we craved, believed.

he bellowed, “as you recover, as you get well,

you will grow up and give up verse.”

“words of poets die,” he said, “and so will you.”

I recall those days, yet here I persist in

being old, in love, not well, words still invade.

not yet recovered, not well, still seeing songs,

still confused by poets and in awe of a dated

wordsmith, who convinced me I was young

without any songs to harmonize or murmur

like a pesky insect buzzing in my mind.

Tiny Dancer

Light fills my world when he nears.

The moment our eyes meet, our song begins to play.

I dance for him with all of my heart and soul.

Though my legs scream and my lungs burn,

The fire that fills me is one of joy, not pain.

My dress twirls and twirls in time with the song,

Beneath me, the world spins as I do.

Never tired, never ending.

Then, it’s done.

Silence and darkness fall.

The music stops.

I fall still and wait once more.

Our song will play again,

And for him I will dance.

Now, and forever.

Down…

DoOOoOooooWWWwwwnnnnnnnnn

I fell, lift my load

Spin it. Slap it. Smack I. Stay away

sssssssssssshhhhhhhiitttttttttt

I don’t get much sleep

Break free

and hold my hand

Out of pain.  Out of trust. To the fact the end is near

Whatcha gonna Do?

People tell me lies and I found out by myself

Set down your load

Let your burdens be light

Own your good

where am i going

not one place but many

distance traveled, space explored

every night you die. the places you have been disappear when you lay your head

each day represents a new life, you are no longer who you were and neither are the people who loved you

Learning 11 AM

11 AM POEM

Learning, not for the first time and it won’t be the last.

Holding onto to energy and being glued to the words.

Concentration on the here and now not future or past.

Looking for creation that may be absurd

Listening to a caring and sharing creature

Giving total disclosure

The more the merrier

Extreme vetting is not the feature.

Crucial equipment and instructions

Keeping up on necessary introductions

Typing without griping or swiping

Being in the know is the way to go!

Playground in an old school

Lingering in my mind

Reminding how a simple tree house

Singing songs and playing around it

Wondering time how beautiful life is

Serenity on each avenue

Taking times off the road

Secured grounds for our safety

Still missing much of it

Kindling in the heart of a child

Marvelous adventures reminding

Sharing thoughts in our moment

Singing out songs of our time a memory

Endless laughter unending love kindling

Meaning so much in a being rfreshing

“Five – Poetry. Carrying On”

Five centuries ago, there was no Bill
Shakespeare. Cervantes. No Voltaire. Moliere.
Chaz Dickens hadn’t breathed and Ariel
had not left Shelley’s corpse in Leghorn Bay.
Lord Byron’s foot was not the club, his will,
stomping jealousy into the fair.
Elizabeth and Robert weren’t ‘The Swell
and Portuguese’ that we still praise today.

Now they’ve all come and gone and left behind
just scraps of what they said, pinned to the page.
One day I’ll follow them. What will I leave?
Just pages of my own, unloved, unsigned?

I hope to leave great stories. Plays to stage.
Words for future authors to quote and thieve.

Open the Book

Open the book and read
stories of adventure and of stillness
of seeing the world and
of knowing one intimate space

Open the book and read
how it all began
with a whisper
in the child’s ear

Open the book and read
words arranged
into new imaginations
mindscapes built upon dreams

Open the book and read
where you have been
where you are
where you breathe to be

[Prompt 4: The prompt for this hour is to write a four stanza poem. The stanzas can be as long or short as you want them to be. In each of the stanzas, you most repeat one of the lines in the first stanza. It can be the same line repeated in each stanza or a different line in each stanza. This can have a dramatically different effect, depending on the length of the line and the length of the stanza]
