The House at the End of the Street

Alone at last in the dead of night,

he reaches for her under their threadbare existence

with one clammy hand.

She dutifully obliges.

Alone at last in the dead of night,

the girl is sound asleep;

the tiara is still askew on her head

after the day’s rabid celebration.

Alone at the last at the dead of night,

the boy takes the unrelenting road

out of the town.

And towards new adventures.

Alone at last at the dead of night,

the dog sheds its skin

and howls at the moon.

Signs and Symbols (poem 4)

The map is not your body:
Our functions are not
linear; our tangents
derived from simple
meanings — a sign or symbol,
Greek or Arabic.

The map is not your body:
We cannot solve ourselves,
but where we intersect,
I am integral.
You are my secant.

The map is not your body:
Mercator’d here, its
curve is lost — I trace great circles;
search for some meridian between our poles —

I must remember:
The map is not your body.

Poem #4

In the dubiously accessible castle of the status gaffer bashers, for a change, the prejudice feels built in to the glass cackles, rotting me out

There
In the nicotine glade
You may arrive
Twirling
Dissapproving
When you only meant to observe
Detach the man from the uniform
As you see,
Distinct
The will from the power
Don’t conflate
Don’t join the abberation
Order like this
‘Hiyah’
That you may parse galaxies
You may do all these things
And if you do
Add a penny to the pile for me
Pal
Bounce foot to foot
And if you don’t
Well
Add a penny to the other pile for me
Won’t you.
It is chill here.
Perhaps we are not fit for nothing.
Perhaps that is absurd.
Remember the seacrest
Pollonius
Carry the guess
To the fool in the pool
And whatever happens
As long as you live
You will carry some guess or other
That is our natural voucher
I guess
But one assertion that doesn’t need analysis
Is my elbows crooking out
Are flagging
And fun

Engulfed

Happy thoughts eluded her

In the melee of rejoicing

The colors that surrounded her

Turned gray as it touched her

She felt like a misnomer

In a sea of uniformity

Nothing could break her out of the gray

Until she let herself be swallowed

By the grayness

And drowned into oblivion

Hour 4 – The Time We…

Do you remember the time

We fell over drunk?

Our arses all wet from the rain?

Do you remember the time

We made love all night?

To the same, repeated refrain?

Do you remember the time

We let go of our child?

And how we ignored all the pain?

Do you remember the time

We illicitly met?

And realised that nothing had changed?

mr. sunshine

you make me happy

joyful

delightful

with all ten fingers and toes

you make me silly

happy

get rid of all my woes

cheerful

wonderful

jubilee

exhilarate

little mr. sunshine,

my little ray of golden sun,

sweet little child of mine

you make me happy

when my skies are grey.

Hour Four, Repeating line, four stanzas

Intersections

We assume separation when in fact there is unseen
connection, one state of being intersects another.
Beach umbrellas lined the shore in multihued rows,
mirroring the shore’s sweeping curve and assuming
the waves will never reach their ordered lines when in fact
chaos creeps closer at each pass, and will soon overwhelm.

We assume separation when in fact there is unseen
connection, one state of being intersects another.
A flower’s petals uncurl, a sea creature spirals its shell,
the hair of my baby’s head clockwise swirls, within
my belly once upon a time his spine curved as he grew,
and nebulae swirl their majestic starry arms, all ordered
to Fibonacci, the scientific dreamer’s, sequence.

We assume separation when in fact there is unseen
connection, one state of being intersects another.
We glimpse a hitchhiker with long, dark hair in
a flashing, clear instant as we pass on the highway,
she on her journey and we on ours, not sparing
another thought until her picture flashes on the news,
a match to our memory, her death intersecting our lives,
one path ending while our own goes on.

We assume separation when in fact there is unseen
connection, one state of being intersects another.
So easy to believe in the moments when I see myself
that this life will go on just as it is, it will continue
on its smooth course, though even without trauma,
without any interrupting drama, this life changes day
by day. The memory of youth and strength lingers
while the outer shell ages, connected and continuing,
eternity in my momentary now.

BABY LADIES

Baby ladies rule
Doing the stroll, doing deeds
Unheard of before

Baby ladies primp
And preen in neon puddles
Left by summer storms

Baby ladies blow
Pink bubblegum fire crackers
While luring their prey

Baby ladies climb
Into childhood beds with
Shredded teddy bears

Baby ladies dream
To be bitches or witches
Or women like mom

Every footstep of ‘God love is right.

Beside of your heart.

See everything we go through.

Every breath we take.

God’ Is their.

Promise of  ‘God love

Is the glory that we feel into our hearts.

Every smile we smile God ‘ Is their.

God’ Is our promise to love our souls.

Guild us through his light.

Promise of God’ Love is light to our souls.

Promise of God’ Love

Prompt For Hour Five

Write a poem about a specific location that meant a lot to you as a child or teenager that you have not returned to in many years. It could be a house, a park, a country, anywhere that had particular significance. The focus of the poem could be on the location itself, or it could be on something(s) that happened there, or someone you spent a lot of time with there.
