The squirrels

who raid my bird feeder

should be as big as pigs

Day after day

they show up

like having been invited to a family dinner

They take turns at the feeder

past years they fought.

Not anymore

Momma squirrel must have taught some manners

Light

When all my heart could see was darkness.

You gave me your light.

Of your love.

Poem 20 — You WILL Be My Friend!

“Come on Mr. Bear. Let’s go with the fox”. Demanded the little girl.
She insisted on befriending two vicious animals, to make them, a part of her world.
“Where are you going fox? Come back here.
Go to my playhouse for tea, my dear.
I’m not afraid of you. I just want to play.
I want to play now, not another day.
I will keep talking smack until you turn around.
I have a lot to say before the sun goes down.”
“Ah, come on”, said the bear, “she gets on my nerves too.
The other animals won’t understand you like she and I do”.
So the fox stopped and turned with a thought.
We walked this far for nothing. It was all my fault.

Reality

It’s 9am and I woke up because I felt you, I tossed my body to roll over as if the unconscious part of me knew you were not even there, dreaming in the awake moment of needing you a fantasy is created, I’m sure you’re sleeping in silence right now comfortable in knowing you are where you belong, I try not to admit it but I know you sleep different there….home…. in the solitude of it being your space, with me you barely sleep, not just because of the way our bodies exist to stay up so long in the passion of a beautiful love making mess, but also because you are not in your domain… when you’re with me I always wake to you being awake, I’m sure your mind wanders when you lay your head beside what you love leaving another pillow empty of your love, but who am I to speak on my thoughts when there are feelings involved…

Angel Encounters

Once there was an angel

all strong and fierce and bright

who lighted by my husband’s bed

before we were wed..

in the middle of the night.

This is what the being said,

when my husband had awoken,

because of it’s great light,

like a fire that won’t consume:

“You must love her”….

A message from God

Who loves His children.

He had been paralyzed

until the stately creature left

and warmth slid over him

like a blanket, soft and pure.

When it released him, he was bereft

for: one does not wish to be left

by an angel of God.

But, we were married in the Church

before the Majesty of He

Who sets all free

to love what is right.

For the tears which coursed down

my husband’s face that night

were also due to

the overwhelming love of God.

Four years past..

for children we prayed..

because to love children is right…

but not owed.

So we waited in hope.

And then, five years wed,

we bore the fruit of a child.

God’s love in human form.

Then, in years to come,

five more were born.

Sometimes there are stares

and whispers..

“How can you have so many children?”

They ask, amazed.

I know not.. for they are not like

flowers simply plucked from the field

when we want them, to pretty up our bouquet.

Lovely it is to behold,

but they are planted and rooted

by unseen hands, knit in wonder and awe.

Gifts from above, they are.

The tears which overflow course down

onto little cheeks…

for endless love is present

in the form of a child.

When the strangers whisper and stare,

sometimes they exclaim:

“You’re hands are full!”

I used to bow my head,

for they tried to shame me.

But, with age,

has come grace.

So now I simply reply:

“Yes…full of joy!”

with a smile of sincere

gratitude to the One Who gives.

But, sometimes He takes away..

a sacrifice in this world which

has forgotten love in human form.

We have seven children…

one taken to Heaven by God’s angel,

who had appeared that night.

And there are six born..

but all of them, love in human form..

a verdant field of rooted flowers,

colorful and bright.

For a Saint of Mercy once asked:

“How can there be too many children?

That’s like saying there are too many flowers”.

Looking ahead

to tomorrow

When I can rest

Really today

since it’s

after midnight

The sun will rise at 5:58

my time

I’ll Never Give Up on You

You’ve loved and lost
You’ve been broken and hurt
You’ve lived elation and doubt
You’ve seen and done it all
I know some days, you struggle
The bad outweighs the good
And you feel lost in outer space
Thinking you’re misunderstood
But, through it all, I’m always here
And here, I’ll always be
Your heart is ever kept with mine
I hold it safely near
I’ll hold it tighter when you are hurt
Or riddled by unspoken fear
Our love is forever in the making
Tis meant for all my days
And with that train of thought in mind
I’ll be here always
I’ll see you through the pain and doubt
I’ll cheer you with the highest praise
But most importantly of all
I will never give up on you
You mean to much in my life
Without you, I’m not whole
You’ve left your footprints on my heart
Etched in concrete, paved with love
So even if you’re riddled in doubt
Take this one to your grave
I’ll be here forevermore
And I’ll never leave your side
We’re in this thing together
Good or bad and right or wrong
Because through it all, we’re what matters
And that, we’ll always be

Standing Alone

In this life, I’d rather stand alone
Than next to people that hide
In the shadow of their insecurity
My heart is true and beliefs strong
I’ve a strong sense of wrong and right
But, if acting on my beliefs
Means I must stand alone, so be it
Complaining, whining and not acting
This changes nothing
Actions speak louder than words
By acting on my beliefs, I know
Change can and often does occur
Is it brave to stand alone – sure
But, I would do it each and every time
Regardless of the friends it may cost me
In the long run, I’ll rest well at night
My heart will know peace
Nothing else matters besides that

I Miss Our Talks

You have been gone almost six months
And I find this unreal
In that short time, you’ve missed so much
I still struggle to heal
I think of you each Sunday morning
As I stop myself from calling
The phone just rests there in my lap
The tears can’t keep from falling
I miss the tales of cats and fish
I miss your laugh and smile
But yet, I know, our dearest friends
Are here but just awhile
I find such peace in knowing you’re well
Resting peacefully on high
And still I’ll sit and talk with you
Sometimes when day is nigh
But it is truly not the same
Though selfish to admit
I wish that you could call my name
If only just once more
But instead, I’ll keep you in my heart, always
til we meet at Heaven’s Door

Beginning with The End

the first words, starting coming

hours before the starting~gun

as I drifted off to sleep

I started the morning

Beginning with The End,

of yesterday.

the bittersweet cacophony

ringin’ in my head

“note-to-self for next time”

never skip ahead

As the hours passed us by,

the succulent sadness

set in

Twas the beginning

of

THE END
