Hour 20 – Ekphrastic Poem

The Places You Can Go

The strangest sight you ever saw
Was on Main Street today
It made the people stop and stare
And not know what to say.

Parading her way though the town
Was little Nora Knox
Marching with a big black bear,
And following a fox.

They marched across the city park,
Right past the candy shop,
And when they reached the library,
Nora yelled out “STOP!”

The marched in place, the fox and bear,
With Nora smiling wide.
When Miss Mung the librarian
Peeked out, they went inside.

Nora stepped out all alone
And gave us all a look,
“To have adventures just like mine,
Come in and grab a book!”

#PoemNo20

These streets have been silent
for far too long…
Let’s kick up a storm
and run all along.
Let’s raise our voices
and make our intentions clear.
Let this announcement reach those far and near.

The revolution has begun.

Man and animal walk hand in hand

together all along.

United by this purpose.

Let’s create a revolution
and let the world know it’s purpose.

For ideas are born in mind,

but implemented in revolutions.

The Execution (Hour Nineteen)

I was led to the gallows

Gruffly, by indifferent men

Who’d learned not to feel.

They pushed me forward,

So that I would climb the steps.

When I reached the top,

The hangman looked into my eyes.

“How are you?” he said.

“Pardon me,” I beseeched.

“Excuse me,” he said,

As he slipped the cover over my head,

Then the noose,

Adding, “Thank you.”

“Pardon me,” I implored,

Though he was not a lawman.

And his last words, which came after mine,

Which I heard as darkness became light,

Were “Have a nice day, darlin’. Welcome home.”

hour three

“Before Darkness”

the blurry city
before darkness
just like my watercolors
drawings
in the beginning
asking me to clarify
what is actually there
at first just a faint idea
my thoughts taking
shape

Prompt 20 – Hour 20 – ekphrastic poem – “The Mission”

Olivia sat with her friend Ollie the bear,
as she waited for her two friends, Oxie the
fox and Ellie the elephant calf

Today was a bright, sunny day — perfect
for their planned picnic. Olivia had worn
her favourite red and green dress

Oxie came running as fast as his legs could
carry him. “Ellie has fallen into a pit, and
is in pain”, he told them

They discussed on how to get Ellie out, the role
each would play. Olivia grabbed a nearby rope,
they followed as Oxie led the way

Oxie would lead them to the location and then
set off to find Ellie’s mother, Ella. His fox
friends were already searching for her

Ollie would get down into the pit and try to
push Ellie up. Olivia would tie the rope on
Ellie’s legs and slowly pull him up

By then, Oxie would bring Ella, who would
check Ellie and ensure she is fine. They
would all rest after their effort

Three determined friends, walked briskly,
to rescue Ellie, so that they could enjoy
the picnic on this perfect, sunny day

Trifold

Phil knows the way
Knows the path, knows the trail,
Knows the shortcuts, the subtle lay lines
Phil the vanguard,
Phil the scout,
Without Phil the journey is aimless
Without Phil the mission is mindless,
Wandering through hostile territory dangerous without his guidance

Phil the mind, the intellect, the unspoken guide

Phil leads by intelligent design
Leads the bear body corporeal
Leads the childlike wandering heart
Leads the threefold tribe through urban jungle
Through man-made labyrinth back to natural state
Back to Source
Back to the old ways
Back to where it all begins
And will always return

Hour Seventeen: Fragility Skulls

i crash landed and found youth on the day bed.
i spent days wasting my eyes looking at the sun.
rotate me and sacrifice me, my head is torn in different directions.
misled you and washed you in acid rain,
took all the bone out of you, you don’t get anything back.
there are riddles to solve, beneath this earth, unearth me,
no one to blame but your own games that have been set out on the floor,
i was sworn to secrecy by the broken road we came upon.
there was this fragile picture of us, came apart, and came up in flame,
the skulls and the bones of every secret you stole,
and never gave back.
it’ll come attack you, if you let it.

Excuse Me

‘Excuse me’ a tiny voice she heard

‘You’re sitting on my beard.’

A  large butt cheek she heaved

And the bearded lady was relieved.

‘Excuse me’ a hand tugged on her skirt

‘I’ve fallen and I am hurt’

Blood pooled stickily on the ground

She screamed ‘Is there a Doctor around!’

‘Excuse me’ a frail lady did quiver

‘There’s a dead body in the river’

‘Call an ambulance and the police!’

‘Don’t worry it’s only an old fleece.’

‘Excuse me, not ‘Oy you’ the lady demanded

‘I ain’t gonna tell you now Mrs’ he rounded

‘Manners maketh man’ she scowled at their faces

She turned promptly and tripped over her laces.
