Before Darkness

Oh your light gave a fright

To this lone wandering star

So used to the dark of the night

Being afraid is all it had known

One nightmare to the next

Every step was a fight

Searching for a place called home

In a word or a place

Who ever knew it was in a name?

And then you came

From beyond the shallows of night

Smiling a ray of hope

And all at once it never knew

What was before the darkness

3 I’d Rather Be

A Clairvoyant, who could see and hear the lost souls

A Mimic, who apes everyone offending no one

A Dog, loyally in love with one master

All the Superheroes combined – for their righteousness

Incredible Hulk for his tremendous strength

Flash for his unparalleled speed

Iron Man for his ‘metallic’ heart

Batman&Robin, the no-nonsense duo

Superman, who could be human and alien, after all

and of course, Wonder Woman, the epitome of girl’s empowerment.

A Budding Flower, to bloom for the bees and butterflies

A Child of 3, who could be mischievous and full of mischiefs

yet still lovable to grannies and moms alike

A Coconut Tree, standing tall, resiliency personified,

and protective of its fruits

The Sand that meets the ocean’s kisses

A Piranha, a small predator, with gigantic image

A Whale, lovable edifice

A Dolphin, just plain lovable

The Air that we breath

The Sunrise that gives another chance in life

The Night that gives way to Sunrise

The Rain that works in cahoots with Tears

The Thunder, the Lightning, as wake-up callers.

Yes, I’d rather be more

Or a little bit of those

I could not asked for more.

Prompt 3: Before Darkness

Before Darkness (a golden shovel poem, with respect to William Carlos Williams)

I can’t say it was a surprise so

Why was there so much

I didn’t know? I guess it depends

On why I did it. The mystery upon

which I’ve based my life– a

a son, born in a gush of red.

Instead of grasping the wheel

I laid down in my barrow

And longed to be dead, eyes glazed,

Only to be forcibly resurrected with

The deluge, dislodged by the rain

Of his tears, that salty, bracing water

That I could not ignore, lying beside

him in my lonely bed, the

little body, writhing, white

No sleep before darkness, day broken by the cries of chickens.

NOTE In case you’re wondering what a “golden shovel poem” is: http://www.writersdigest.com/whats-new/golden-shovel-poetic-form. My inspiration was WC Williams’ famous poem

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

Before Darkness

Before darkness,

the twilight.

The sun’s warm beams soften, glow.

The harshness of the day subsides.

Beauty is intensified.

The earth is a canvas painted with peace and warmth,

oblivious to all that is not beautiful.

Before darkness,

preparation.

The bittersweet goodbye of a soul,

knowing his journey is inevitable.

The chance to unburden hearts and thoughts.

Before darkness,

peace.

The Nectarine Tree

A pink crescent moon in an indigo sky,

was my ceiling that night, though I didn’t ask why,

Simply breathed it all in, feeling strangely content,

as I plucked fruit from a tree that was broken and bent.

We worked in the dark, til a floodlight turned on,

illuminating the scene, spilling light on the lawn,

In that strange brilliant glow I grabbed fistfuls of fruit,

trying hard to relieve the poor tree of it’s loot,

Tired and worn, her branches drooped to the ground,

unable to carry even one more pound,

In her shame there was beauty, with her graceful green leaves,

Gently framing her branches, like a gown with fine sleeves,

The nectarines she grew were hard and small,

but their deep royal colour was not ugly at all.

The scene had great beauty, a part of me knew,

It felt like a secret, no one else had a clue.

But pink crescent moons in an indigo sky, don’t happen too often, and I will not ask why,

I’ll simply take what I’m given, but won’t ask for more,

else I become like the fruit tree, hurt by the beauty she bore.

BEFORE DARKNESS

I live.

The time is coming when the sordid stench of confusion will rule my brain.

but before darkness there is this glorious moment of light.

before darkness

is the magic time

the light is just right, caressing

revealing what was hidden in the glare of noon

before the winter darkness

autumn’s glow is warm and nourishing

I feed o  all the wonderous sights.

Oh  Brave old world

that has such beauty in it.

#3 Missing my Muse

Can’t believe it

I have a quiet house when I need it

and my muse is gone

missing.

Don’t know when it left

or where it went.

Must have heard about work

a marathon

24 hours of creativity.

Please come back

this is fun writing

no expectations.

Before Darkness

No more light

I thought we were right

Inspiration in my hand

Trying hard to understand

Thought that he would be the man

Now I’m simply faded.

Wondering if I really could

Will things be better if I should?

Never for a minute thought I would

But now, I’m simply faded

The undoing of me

Is this my fate – my destiny?

There’s no other door I see

Cause now, I’m simply faded.

Wow, just heard from above

All I need is His perfect Love

Don’t know what I was thinking of

But never again will I be faded when approaching the darkness.
