question

Hi! I’m trying to get ready for Saturday 🙂 So, on Saturday, after I write a poem, I would create a new post, mark the post as a marathon poem, mark it private, and then press “publish”? Just want to make sure I’ve got this down 🙂 Thanks, fellow marathoners!

first time half marathoner

like i assume many of us, ive been writing poetry for a while because it is there and because i love it. i am so excited for this kind of poem community and to see how craft changes once i… treat it like craft instead of like urge.

here’s a poem from the practice my poetry half marathon compatriot (pumbrino!!) and i have been doing. mostly putting this here to prevent myself using it as a cheat.

cant wait to read everyone’s work!

i’ve got a voice, but
it’s the voice of a child
don’t know what it wants but –
i know it won’t stop
do you think like this
stuck in what if, but
it cant be and was
not likely – a wish
a myth,
as if you could
be, as if
we knew at any point what it could be
to be, we’re stuck
in our texts which is to say
you’re never where you are
are you, no you’ve never been

A New Challenge

Good day creatives! I am excited to attempt this marathon. My name is Diane.  I have performed in open mics, podcasts, and my works appear within anthologies. I write fiction and non-fiction pieces. This is my first attempt to write within the “confines” of a marathon.

I believe that I have lots to write about, and I always enjoy prompts that stretch one’s imagination.

Between city life, cultural awareness, family, jobs and friends, I for one am neither bored nor bereft of topics to engage my pen. I’ll be tested. Good luck everyone. Peace.

Hello everyone from Muskoka – central Ontario, Canada!

Hi there!

This will be my 4th Poetry Half Marathon. That will tell you something. These events push me to focus and block out distractions because of the time crunch. And I’ve written some of my best poems during the marathons.

I’m definitely not up to 24 hours… I’m in awe of those of you who make that commitment.

If this is your first marathon, take time to read, and comment on the work of other participants. It will help your own writing.

And most of all, I hope you all have a great, fun-filled experience!

Cheers

Wendie

Introduction

Hi, everyone, I’m Tanya. Thanks for having me here. This is my first time participating in the marathon. I’m looking forward to spending this time with all of you! 🙂

Hello!

My name is courtney, and this will be my first ever marathon! I’m a little nervous, but also incredibly excited! I haven’t written in a while and am ready to dedicate an entire day to it, leaving expectations and doubts behind 🙂

Tina from Seattle – adventure ahead!

Hi, I’m Tina from near Seattle. I was part of the marathon two years ago and had a blast. Last year unexpected guests redirected my energies – but I was mumbling poems all weekend and missed the fellowship of dedicated poets focusing their energy to brighten and deepen our world. I look forward to being part of our positive world-building this year.

Our Children Our Future

Once upon a time

I was a tiny toy on my moms’ hands

The apple of her  eyes

With her love and tears

I am what I am

With time

I moved away from home

Away from the festivals

Away from the palm and mango groves

Here in the midst of fast cars

Fast food and smart phones

High tech research and managed accounts

My childhood still resonates within me

I am still my mom’s tiny toy

Like all of us

With an intense desire

To pass our culture and language

(Along with our genes)

To our kids

The pupils of our eyes

Through our children

The essence of our culture

And our convictions

Clash and coalesce with the cultures of the world

Our children get transformed

And they transform our vision

About

Us

Our culture

Our children

And

Our future.
