Hour Three: Shades

Hour Three: Shades

I saw amber waves of grain
in a dream it must have been
for they stretched for miles, so far,
coast to coast, it seemed,
and overtook all means to stop them.
Fruitful, they were, multiplying by the thousands,
millions even,
standing tall,
waving in the breeze,
effortlessly bending,
unbreakable.
And then, as one, a miracle, it seemed,
the amber shifted – not gradually,
as when the season changes
from summer to fall,
but all at once
as when a sudden summer storm breaks
wreaking havoc in the natural order of things –
And those amber fields of grain,
burst into pink!
proud and vibrant and
unabashedly female shades of coral and blush,
salmon and magenta and fuchsia,
the pink of bubble gum and babies’ cheeks,
And flamingos.
Onwards they marched
until all was afire in pink,
a rosy glow settling over the nation
a spark growing into a blaze
of fury.

Hour Three – The Fall of Hope

The Cello dates back to the 1500s
During that time, my family was still in Europe
Some were farmers, others preachers
the earliest members came over in the 1600s
hoping to find a country to give them what theirs never could
a home to call their own and a hopeful future
four hundred years later, and I am still living in the same place
The same country that accepted them has rejected me
They helped build the country that would write off their descendants
Women have been the backbone of the country for as long as it has existed
How can you feel safe in a country that doesn’t believe in you
How do you live in a country that decided you do not have a say in your future

Hey! I’m sorry

Hour – 3

Hey! I’m sorry
She whispered,
She was sorry
For whatever she did,
She couldn’t have forgotten that scar,
She couldn’t have hidden that mark,
She could have gone far,
She could have lost that spark,
Eternal love made her stand up
And she gathered the courage,
With little reticence, she looked up
Not bearing any grudge,
She mumbled hey! I’m sorry
her sorry was as warm
As his, i love you was
It wasn’t his appearance
Not even his charm
That made her fall for him
That tied them together
It was just honesty that
Made her realize,
Not everything ends like that
Sometimes we’ve to compromise,
We’ve to stop
A little bicker might happen
But for the sake of love only
to keep things together,
We need to take the initiative
Because sometimes it’s better
to say that I’m sorry
to hear i love you again!!

Hour 1: Prompt 1: Drowning

The water feels cold

Like the blood that coarses through my veins

Or so that’s what they tell me

That’s how I seem to come off

Never understanding why

Do they think it’s possible to adjust my temperature

Do they think it gets warmer with more bullshit added

I’m not a bath.

I don’t exist for your comfort.

I don’t need cute scented little bath bombs to make me whole.

I am the bomb.

And those who keep testing the waters will succeed in nothing but their own drowning.

Let the song play

We sat there in silence
neither of us had anything left to say
I could see the hurt in your eyes
and you could feel my anger
As I tried to figure out if this was over
I realized my phone was still playing music
As I moved to grab my phone you stopped me
saying you just wanted to hear the chorus again

Hey Girl,

How pretty perfect

How pink and rosy cheeks

How darling pretty dearie is

When pretty starts to speaks

Hey girl

How pretty lovely

How pretty and how pure

How pretty when you aim to please

You pretty, pretty girl

Hey girl

You pretty painting

You ornament, you jewel

So pretty when you shimmer

Sparkle, never pretty dull

Hey girl

You pretty treasure

You flower, you’re divine

You’d look so very pretty

Perching on this shelf of mine

But what

If I’m not pretty pink

What if I feel blue

If I feel viridian

What am I then to you?

And what if

I’m not hey girl

If I’m dude or in between

Why must I be pretty

In order to be seen

Can I

Not just be dapper?

Can I not just be spry?

Can I not just be something

More than pretty in your eyes?

Can I

Not just be funny?

Can I not just be sharp?

Can I just once be more

Than a pussy with a heart?

Hollywood Hike (Hour 3)

Taking in the dense urban air
Suddenly, I pause
In the distance, I see it, standing tall
Immediately, I knew I wanted to hike
Up this beautiful looking mountain, so close, yet so far removed

As I walk towards it, a first time visitor to LA
I know not where I go
But deep down, I feel content
I scale the mountain, step by step
Each step, lightening me more than the last
As the city beneath me shrinks
I’m excited for what lies ahead

Towards the top, I see the sign
The Griffith Observatory
As I near the summit
A walk becomes a sprint, then a dash

Till I reach, witnessing a world around me
Of minuscule buildings, bathed in the setting sun
I stand for a quiet moment, taking it all in
The sights, the sounds, the light hill air
Slowly and surely, the sun begins to set
Nearby, a crowd mills around a telescope
But I’m too engrossed seeing the stars closest to me
Above in the sky
And below in the city

Hour 3 : The Only Boy I Love

The Only Boy I Love

The only boy I love likes La la land and Mimosa. The flower not the drink. Or maybe both,                I never asked him and it amazes me how we still have so many things to find out about each other after all the years and texts and late night talks.

The only cishet guy in my heart likes glitter and penguins. Reads me recipes to calm me down. Doesn’t show up to a Pride march if he isn’t invited. Always comes and get me when I call in the middle of a party. Tells me about all the cute girls. Helps me with my boy bow ties. Asks if it’s okay  before he does anything.

The only boy I love tells me on a train he could help me make a baby if I needed him to.              And still our friends seem surprised when they come visit and notice                                              I’ve got pictures of him in every single room.

The only boy I love is the one I can’t make a home without.

TILL THEN

Let me mind my troubles alone,
when time comes I’ll sit like a king on his throne.
Be busy preparing yourself too as a queen,
fight your battles and win.

Till then let love go on a journey,
I’m away too finding a better life full of honey.
If time and chance will wish,
you and I shall enjoy the king’s dish.
Asking you for a dance on the floor with princes and princesses,
Till then let individual pay his or her prices.
Someday we shall pour wine celebrating our victory,
With smile sharing each other’s story.
