Poem 3. La La Land

We call out to you
the angels under our tongues
speaking in a language
it has been said that you know.
We have been told that you know.

We lay on our face
waiting for your responses.
We lay on our face.
We push mud into our ears.
We grind sand into our eyes

hope our souls are wrong
even when we know that aren’t
when the sky spits out
terror, hate, dead small children…
you don’t speak angel’s language.

Go back to where men
created you. These tongues
are ours. We speak the
language of angels now. We
speak and answer our own calls.

Emulation

He stands tall above the other…

houseplants…?

Dracaena

A dragon tree, crowned and elegant,
loosing fronds in every direction,
three headed and authoritative.

The tinge of red among the strobe of green growth
catches my eye,
earns my admiration,
directs my contemplation.

I try to reign in that elegance, learn a lesson
from this life I oversee

I have the same power within me,
we all do,
don’t we?

But the same tree I admire,
that which I strive to emulate
is not without his own weaknesses.

A particularly bright day,
or
an extra day gone by without a drink of water,
or
a gnat come to rest in his roots,

and my beautiful tree shows his weaknesses.
A vibrant frond begins to crinkle,
maybe even fall,
and I am reminded—

We have his power,
we share his weakness,
we are all endlessly altering.

I wonder which iteration will show through tomorrow.

Waning

Waning

The full moon

gasps its last,

then shrinks

like a fading

black and white

television screen,

incandescent circle

growing ever smaller,

until the sky

swallows it whole.

Pink earth, green sky

Oh, to take a cello
To the pink earth and green sky
Spread out on the hours

A carpet of flyaway dreams…

A lovely breeze to ruffle the notes, and carry

An old tune I’m humming

To distant skies –

Pollens of happiness
So treasured in
Darkening times…

2 Alone

2      Alone

There’s no one listening

To see if you are well

To see if you need something

There’s no one here to tell

The dog will ask for treats

And maybe hug you close

Sometimes you see a smile

But not the one  you lost

Soon they all stop asking

To know just how you feel

All ramble on about themselves

Afraid that grief stays real

When you know this happens

You simply must forgive

You look for those people

Who keep managing to live

A different empty nester

Just your voice that sings

The other sadly left this nest

On soft angelic wings

Purple Earth

Purple Earth

Under the blue sky
purple earth shimmers
and tree of life
spreads its vines

Hour 3

@varenyas

Music in my bedroom

On my bed I lay.

Supine, and occupied with my thoughts.

I stare at the ceiling

As the sound wafts in

Caressing my mind.

It’s a violin playing

CrossOver Two by Mr. & Mrs. Cello.

I close my eyes

Like a child in Dreamland.

The sound surrounds the room,

The decibel goes up so does my spirit.

My unconscious persona clings fast

To the allurement of that sound

Coming from the bedside music box.

I drift and my mind lifts

Like a feather dancing

To the drumming of a whirlwind

On a journey to see God

Seeing Clearly

Seeing Clearly

My husband drinks beer and/or vodka
Every night I hear as he pours
The liquid into a cup

He often wonders why
He’s sleepy before
I am ready

To close my
Sober
Eyes
