3. Goodbye

The way you smile
and your eyes sparkle
and all these shades of red,
of this nameless red tree
that reflect off of you.
I realize,
you were the missing piece
of the art that I make,
the shade of color,
I can never get right,
and I will never.
Its better to part
when the sky is still blue,
the stars will never let us.

“The Death Tree”

A tree that bend from a hill,
Often cast a spell to kill.
Its chant whispers through the wind,
And slowly sips, and sips your blood.
It stoles whatever love you hold,
You will do things as it was told.
In a summer heat, underneath
Blood dripping from its leaves.
It is your own, but you can’t smell,
You’re still under its spell.
So, I warn you now to run down hill,
Run for your life, kid. Run to feel.

HOUR ONE ~ Kinderhook Creek

KINDERHOOK CREEK

for Thaniel, Evie, & Peyton

the coolness of the shifting shallows under our feet

a hot day ebbs away in the shade of the pine trees

I’ve hurt myself, careless, every time we’ve gone

letting my blood become another truth of the forest

we play “kiss each other clean” through a phone speaker

because our histories have been forged equally in iron and wine

we splash and shriek at the coldness as the sun slips down

cotton candy clouds filling the sky with pinks and purples

may we share our secrets equally with each smiling face

holding us through the twilights that arise to match each dawn we see

one more reflection of the ways we hold each other without touching

one frosted sparkling drink flowing down in rivulets from the mountains

we’re alive in the coldness, we’re alive in the heat

we’re alive under the ebb and flow of all these hurried minutes

waiting to see ourselves again reflected back in still waters

while what remains rushes around us, seeking as we do

Marathon poem #1

Papa—

Awake before the sun

but after the Robins

have begun their songs

for the day.

Awake because I lay

in my thorny nest

of warmth—

Wondering if

you’d still enjoy

the Robin’s sing

knowing it’s the last Spring

you’d hear them —

and knowing

you won’t see

the sun make its journey

across the skyline

for you.

I wonder if you’re awake too—

And if you were, would you still go outside

to hear their sweet songs—

and watch the sun gently rise

over the horizon—

or I wonder,

If you’ve seen that enough.

Who you’re not (Hour #3)

Never reply; I’m not sure.

To a question about your identity.

Now, cross it out; I’m not sure.

Add a few more statements of confidence; I have an identity.

You can brag a little too; I’m very unique.

It’s all falling in piece now, resounding like a beautiful harmony, because in a monotonous world like this – you’re singing cheerfully.

As you swirl and dance gracefully, you’re saying to world, “Hey! Look at me!”

“I’m sure I have an identity, I’m very unique.” And in a tuneless world like ours darling, you have your music.

So sing it out.

And sing louder.

You’re different.

Hour 3 – chapters on eternity

the heart wants to

write lines on love and loss

hum the lyrics of desires

dream of the silver

and golden mouths of galaxies

the heart wants to

beat in the peaceful solitude

of snowy mountains

touch the cold streams

that banish all thoughts

and stillness of meaninglessness

the hand only writes

on the blackboard

concepts to be taught tomorrow

chapter 1 and 2 and 3

and 30

the heart drowns

in the chapters to be taught

till eternity

Our Waltz // Prompt #3

Oh, how we’ve danced these last two years.

Our first twenty? Merely practice for our waltz

of surviving, fretful tears, hushed and distant goodbyes.

We breathed the same air, now precious and scarce

as our world gasped for more through sobs and jolts.

You bowed then tipped your hat, and I curtsied with

a demure glance again to catch your direction.

Where would our dance lead us?

This same dance of rhythm, two four six eight steps

repeating the melody in a song which grew deeper,

more resonant each day we were blessed to dance.

You are now the one closest to me,

mine who grew closer as our pivots changed to pirouettes.

Our shared precious air, our quiet sky, our shaky dance,

drawing us together in our daily gavotte, our high steps,

our shimmy, our moments of stillness as music swept over us.

You have been the truest partner in our waltz.

I Want to be Radical

content warning: vague references to current events, reference to Stonewall, general ‘fuck cops and politicians’ sentiments <3

My opinions are built off of the weight
of all the pain I’ve seen in the world;
carried up and away from the fact that
life’s not fair but fuck you, it should be.
So the fact of the matter is:
my opinions are radical, and more than that –
I wanna be radical.

I wanna be radical like,
I’ve tasted sunshine and am gonna share,
radical like, I’m gonna do something different,
like human rights should be a default not a privilege.
Cuz you see all this gloom-and-doom, this despair,
the absolute fuckin’ way that they chip and they take
and power begets power and you see that
anyone who wants power is gonna trample
everyone else who is in their way.

If it’s the same pattern over and over again,
then I want to change it.
I am sick of the status quo –
I’m radical, I wanna be radical like
first brick thrown at Stonewall and
living as myself and breathing as myself
and knowing my truths.

I wanna be radical like,
I’m gonna make a difference,
radical like, I’m gonna be happy even though you think I shouldn’t be,
like the lines that divide us are smaller than the things we share,
cuz I’ve been raised on fairy tales and I know all about
power of love, power of faith, the way we’re tied together –
my rights, my happiness, the same as yours,
red string of fate and soulmates being friends and
true love existing wherever any kind of love does.

I’m an optimist.
It’s kind of a foolish proposition to take,
but this is not the end of the world –
not as long as I’m living, breathing,
able-to-do-something-ing.
And I know everything seems bad but
humanity is a bunch of obstinate, stubborn fuckers
and we riot when we’re hurting.

I wanna be radical like,
none of this matters,
radical like, we can do better,
like when you choose hate I’ll choose love.
Sometimes the best I’ve got is
a raging, radical fuck you.

Searching dear love

Amidst the vast universe,

Searching dear love.

From where can find?

Who will hold my heart?

The starry sky of the town smiles.

There are so many bars.

There are so many people.

All are reflected their hearts.

Is that the love?

For whom my mind is longing?

I don’t know so much.

For this time ,I also want to hear- sweet heart!

Oh dear stars!

You all are shining so bright-

Will you tell me once?

Where is my dear love?

I believe that in heart.

After a certain time,

I will see my beloved-

Together, we will dance with love.
