Poem 23: A Tribute to Francis Dana Barker Gage “We Will”

Our future to see

What will our injustice and cruelty flout

cleaning up the historic debris

as we exercise our newfound clout

The politicians with all the words of know

will no longer have their show

They will be put where they belong

singing a soulful begrudging song

Those who have been called gentle

will have their say, in more ways than one

No longer accused of being temperamental

For them, the instructors of our law will be done

The wars that kill us, in the name of country

Their ignorant cry of bounty

There will be a peaceful transaction

of good towards our neighbour’s station

Corruption, fraud and lies

Not permitted in the new party’s world

I hear the angry impatient cries

that will roll out the carpet of dreams unfurled

Those drunken men of wife and child

No longer permitted in their inns so wild

The dens of iniquity shall be destroyed

and the many numbers of our grace employed

It is time for the voice of suffrage to abound

and never stop until the old force is thrown

We know the answer, it has been found

and the new winds of victory blown

tossing towels in the forest

someone
tossed the towel
in the quiet
of the forest morning

if a tree gives up in a forest
while no one is watching
does it make a sound?
does it even fall?
or will pride glue
its branches to the sky
standing vindictevely though growth
is no longer an option?

Warning

This is the longest day of the year

The sun will be at its hottest

There will be calving

Get to the Kampong

Collect the children and rambutan

the waves won’t

wait for Sunday

or for a list of those

still running away

Philip V. Coombs 7-8pm

21~22

I feed her by hand

I give her my heart

She struggles to swallow

She hates us apart

My pretty pretty princess

‘Twas love at first sight

She snuggles in bed

By my head in the dark

Lies by my side

The purring starts

I cherish each moment

That we have left

Awakened

How do I even awaken myself?

Knowing the fact, for that too now, would need your help…

When destiny’s decision, through you, was to part the ways,

Can’t now even think to close the eyes, for now to even keep dreams away…

Had given a promise to do anything that you say,

Would fulfill it the way, ditching the sleep, even if it was permanently here to stay…

You are such an integral part, who would always be cared the most,

To ever get the first of the toast, but never to be considered ever as lost…

For my happiness had always derived from you,

Got habituated to just follow, whatever you wanted me to do…

Thou, now onward, the mind would sleep at night,

The eyes would be awake to keep you away from the sight…

Nothing would I ever want to do, inviting trouble or pain for you,

To take the night’s darkness for self, leaving the bright sunshine just for you…

Poem XI: The Reminder of Al-Aqsa

Al-Aqsa is in my heart
and the settlers
rip the fibres apart to
chant death threats
to my hollow chambers.
If I do not survive
to see the cerulean grief
in the domes of my heart
morph into the liberation of a country
between the river and the sea,
remind my progeny from the narratives of prophecy;
Pharoah thought he was god
but my God split the sea for the believers
and drowned the enemy
so remind the oppressors that
God is not with them.
Tell my lineage that His Justice
is all-encompassing
and that His,
is not an Abode for the hopeless.
Tell my progeny to not trust the historians
that weave baseless stories
with a golden thread
that fails to cover the blood
on their hands
but to find the poets
who have encrypted their valor
in the ink flowing in their vessels.
Tell my progeny to never lose Faith
in His Wisdom because the
wrongdoers will suffer
in an infinite time-loop
and By His Will, we will witness
the miracle of His Mercy
and the wreckage caused by His wrath.

Prompts for Hour Twenty-Three

Text Prompts

G.K. Chesterton once wrote “Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”

Use this as a prompt to write about cheese. If you’re looking for a little extra inspiration look no further than Benjamin Garcia’s wonderful Bliss Point or What Best Can be Achieved by Cheese.

Image Prompt

These long exposure photographs of fireflies in a Japanese forest are the image prompts for this hour.

and just in case those don’t work for you

Silent Beach

Get a rope!

We can climb down to virgin sand
never to escape again
then climb back up this jagged cliff.

Back to life!

Do you have a refuge

Do You Have a Refuge?

Trials of life will come – no need to pray for that

All you need is to be a human being

Failures and disappointments will come – I do not pray it for any

It’s just what it is

If you live long enough, you’ll experience one or many

If you live too short to experience one

Then, one has come by you to your loved ones, and to your community

The question is not, “Will the storm come?”

The question is, “Will I stand, and withstand the storm?”

The questions is, “What will I do when it comes?”

The question is, “Is there a refuge, a shelter in the time of storm?”

Put no trust in man  –man can be funny in an unfunny way

Man and disappointment are bosom buddies

Where you find man, you’ll find disappointment –it’s only a matter of time

So, what or whom do you trust in the time of storm?

Will you have a refuge in the time of storm?

If you have a refuge but don’t know the refuge

You might as well not have one –a refuge

Do you have a refuge in the time of storm?

Do you know your refuge? It may be hard to search in the time of storm

A refuge we all need in the time of storm

Hour 20: Night Stroll

My body shivers
I blame the freezing wind
Oh it’s not, I forgot to wear thick jacket

Human has to adapt
Not blaming the situation
I grin

The sky is dark
I should get home
But it’s still far away

I see the sturdy building
I see the history
I see art
Oh Lord, how blessed I am
I am able to see the other sides of the world
London is so pretty

Far away from home,
Ah hot tea is my best friend
I am blessed

I enjoy the night stroll, something that might become memories
When I am back at home
