On the Black Hill (Hour 23)

On the black hill where the prarie grasses
and small trees converge into one impenetrable shadow,
from which all that is of the earth unfolds forth,

down through the valleys and secret hollows,
that breathing titan of darkness,
whose outline is just barely seen

formed against the fallen sky,
where purple teeth shine out
from the deep caverns above.

There, upon this midnight place of stilled dreaming,
where starlight's radiance imprisons my slipping retreat,
that waning fire of my paternal seat.

The majestic virility of universalkingdoms
held breathless against the timeless sea
She sleeps in an aging dawn of becoming.

Outlasting the swift brightness of Jupiters might.
In his most silent chamber,
in the most private corridor of his mind,

he feels the foundation weaken,
the breaker wall fallen cold, crumbling.
As she swells, expands, engulfs the mountain

no longer proud.
helpless to a deeper cycle
buried in the rising waves.

That Thread

I hear you calling
my name so sweet
You tempt me

You know that I
am very tired
with no sleep

I will finish this
proving that I can
do this once again

Your voice so tender
like velvet so soft
but I resist

I know I’m getting
older, staying up
is the challenge

You can show me
sleepy wishes
but I have to win

I shall sleep soon
upon my soft bed
but not yet I beg

You sit silent now
but it wont last
I feel it building

I ask you not to
whisper that
sweet lullaby

You think you have
me hanging but I
cut that thread

Silence Cheese

G.K. Chesterton once wrote “Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”

Cheese

How many kinds…

Exceed the appetite

Emotions and sensations

Succulent taste

Exquisite with wine

@Maritza – Hour Twenty-three

Hour 21: Ode to You

I adore every words come from your mouth
I adore you
I adore everything of you
I adore, adore you so much

Your charisma
Oh Gosh, it radiates strongly
It penetrates to my heart

Your red lips, your brown eyes
Your strong jaws
Oh Gosh,
I am so lucky to have you

Perfect smile, perfect companion of me
Perfect guard
Too Impeccable for me

The one who never leaves me alone
The one who sees potential in everything
The one who always be with me

Thank you, you are an answered prayer of mine.

Ode

Oh, dear bank, here is your ode:

I owed, I owed, so off to work I go.

And as I go, heigh ho, heigh ho,

I thank you for another loan!

I carried my load

and mailed out my loan,

So my car won’t get towed;

So the debt collectors will not goad;

Dear Bank, dear bank,

thank you for lightening my load!

(Hour 16 of 24) “rare talent”

The instinct that tells one to step in, or step away.

To discern others’ emotions, or anticipate their thoughts.

An intuition that can’t be explained, and cannot be taught.

A ‘spidey’ sense which cautions.

A gut feeling impossible to ignore.

That prescient lucidity that warns.

Second sight, ‘third eye’, sixth sense,

Telesthesia, clairvoyance, ESP,

“Be one with the Force”, as they say.

This invaluable insight,

This penetrative perception,

A precious gift for the fortunate few.

If I Had Held On

If I had gone with you…
I think our lives would be very different now
Sans stretch marks, C-section scars, and broken bones
But I wanted to make sure you knew
What you wanted

Maybe that was stupid
Maybe I was scared
Maybe you seemed
Just too uncertain
And I didn’t want uncertain

I’m sorry I didn’t try to
Do something more than just say
“Maybe you should know what you want
before we go any further in this.”
I thought I was right

And then I made a mistake
The possibility of you even being my friend
Suddenly was slipping away
And I was sobbing on the phone
Knowing I hurt you

Maybe I did it because
I am forever into self-sabotage
And I loved you more
Than I was willing to admit
I think I was just stupid

We patched things eventually
And then such bigger and crazier things happened
Actions and consequences that
Cut the both of us through our bones
And sooner or later we always came back together

Our lives went in separate directions
Things happened we can’t take back
But there are still nights I wonder
If I had held onto you
Where would we be now?

22 In August

I will bury my sister’s ashes

Forty years past when I stole

Her from the grave returning

Dirt to the open place she

Was destined to rest

A secret her passing from

This life that plagued her

Our parents silently ordering

Me not to tell I had lost her

Grieving was invisible

I will miss walking by her

Each day and evening as she

Watched me travel this life

That wandered up and down

Always not having her

Finally I will get to cry

now an ode to cheese

the giant space
between me and veganism
is cheese

hard or soft
creamy or funky
cow or goat,
though I prefer a cheese whose shepherd I’ve hugged

the refrigerator is organized
with a veggie drawer
and a fruit drawer
and a cheese drawer
though my youngest once said,
“you know you have a lot of cheese
when you have a cheese drawer,
and not all of your cheese fits in that drawer”

splurge on the gluten-free cheese ravioli
for the new air fryer you got for Christmas
that you dip in pesto made with basil from your garden
and there you have
the slice of heaven
that is the kin-dom of God
here on earth today
