Poem #17 — Haiku
I hesitated
I held back all my feelings
And I freed myself
24 Poems ~ 24 Hours
I walk on an island unkown
Swash moaning softly till it tames
I take empty steps to empty new phase
Tell new morn birds I’ve got a friend
A book from the shore of the blues
Take me back in time
For i have found a chapter to find solitude
I have torn a page to fly back in memories
books were safer than people anyway,
you always knew were you stood
fiction, no fiction, F A N T A S Y
people pretend to be what your looking for
while trying to turn you into what thier looking for
some use lies like sweets to draw you in
keep you at arms length,
give me a book anytime
i know i will be going on a journey
it might be rough ride
or a gentle kiss
a heartbreaker
but it is a journey i agree to take
when l open the cover
To be. To feel.
To experience that which is
unimaginable in truth.
To pretend, and say these words
without thinking,
yet meaning each one.
The art of the play, of drama,
of comedy, of tragedy
brings to view what others
never want to live:
an imagined world of life,
death, and excitement…
wars and intrigue…
loves lost, won, and wanted.
Less an icon than an artist
whose canvas is life itself.
The Time Capsule
An old metal box, dirt pasted to it, sits at the side of the hole that will be the basement. I’m here, as I am every day, to check on the progress of our house. Up till the past few days there’s not much visible progress. A worker points to the box. It’s yours. Came out of a bulldozer load. A hundred or so years ago this was a cattle ranch. The neighbor knows the layout of the ranch. Sold years ago, it’s been platted into odd-sized city lots. This one, ours, is more than a lot. It goes deep into the bloci. Whoever surveyed these lots should have been fired and the lots re-surveyed. “Okay,” I say, “let’s open it.” Startled, he looks at me. Now? “Yes, now.” He presses a bar between the top and bottom. With a twist of the bar the box opens. A moldy stuffed animal, perhaps a rabbit, is squashed inside, a crude drawing of a fence with horses inside and a letter. It is dated 107 years before. Dear Reader, it begins, I am placing some treasurers into this special box because Daddy says we must sell our home, our ranch. This is the only place I have lived and I am twelve years old. This rabbit, Jehosaphat, is like one that lived on our ranch for years and then some wild animal got him. It’s the way of the land, I know that. Mama found him in the Sears catalog and ordered him for me. The letter went on and I folded it to read at home. The worker reboxed the treasures for me, put them in the car and the crew returned to work. I thought of the little girl, Emily Ann, who spoke to me from her time capsule and wondered how she had lived her life.
Masterpiece
If he never performed,
never auditioned
every sound we’d miss.
How his passion now still moves me.
Each gentle rhythm builds measure.
Harmony together accompany the emotions I feel.
Music haunts your soul, from spirit I listen to him
sing and perform.
Live life through his gift to us.
With a rush of color in his signature we celebrate.
“I am begging: Let me be lonely but not invisible.” – Natalie Diaz
To be alone
Can be lonely
To be invisible
Is to be nothing at all
Last night together
walking over Whangarei
bridge. Finally, the truth.
“I am begging: Let me be lonely but not invisible.” – Natalie Diaz-
Let me tell you my feelings
Let me know if you want me
But don’t ignore me
I’m real
Not a puppet
I am here
You can call me
But don’t ignore me!
@Maritza – Hour Seventeen
I’ll never forget that day
Yes, THAT day
The day that everything changed
I remember….
We were at Cherry Beach. It was very hot that day
So no one really wanted to do very much
It was mostly a “nap” day
Even though no one was sleeping
I decided to go for a walk on the beach
It was such a beautiful place
That’s when I saw it
Sticking out of the sand
What could it be? I wonder.
So, I went to take a look
A time capsule
Very cool find!
There were pieces of paper inside
And then I noticed words on the paper
I tried to carefully remove the paper
But it all came apart
